would the Peoria Woodruff Cross Country Inv. still be held?

Not that the CC Inv. is the most important detail about this, just curious for scheduling purposes.

I think this is something that is extremely relevant. The superintendent claims that closing a high school is inevitable. The school district is in a 5.9 million dollar deficit.

I was just thinking about this the other day because I heard Woodruff was closing. That is a great meet, but the Peoria public schools are losing enrollment and they just don't need 4 public schools anymore. I went through a merger when I was in school. It's tough, but we all survived. I think Dunlap, with rising enrollment, should step up and take over the meet. Or could a Chicago area school actually be the official host of a meet in Peoria? Whitney Young hosted Top Times in Bloomington. Vandersteen?

Driscoll closing as well after this school year.

A ton of work goes into that meet. Especially since they break it up into 10 races (A, AA, AAA + FS + Open) (unless that changed)

You are talking about an 8 hour day, getting chip timing, plus transportation which is 3 hours each way. You can't really do it. IPTT has 2 (3?) people doing it, and they plan for months ahead of time, and they don't have an entire team to worry about.

I'd be sad to see the invite go. Good competition, and it felt like the state meet with the hundreds of runners in the race

I would think that one of the area teams would step in and host it because it has to be a huge fundraiser for the school that does. Plus its a big boost to the local econimy with meals and rooms, so I'm sure the local Visitor Convention Bureau would be pushing for someone to take it and keep it going. In fact, I bet they could expand the invitationals on Detweiller and still get a great response. It would be nice to see a meet there with a midwest regional flavor.

Doesn't the area running club, Illinois Valley Striders, help out so that would be a smooth transition?

Driscoll closing as well after this school year.

They are fighting like hell to keep it open, but it would only be for another year.

I think you're right, it's such a big thing I can't see the high school closing stopping this meet. We'll see.

Driscoll did end up closing. Jeremy Wilk was the final Driscoll athlete to represent the school in a competitive event. He finished 3rd in the Class A 800 in 1:56.93.

I spoke with the AD. Woodruff is not closing next year, but may merge with Peoria Central for the 2010-2011 school year. Central would continue to host both of the meets (Woodruff's & Theirs). Either way, I pulled my team out and will be at Notre Dame this year.

Did you pull out because Woodruff will close eventually, or just cause you wanted to run Notre Dame?

I wouldn't be surporised if they didn't send some of the students to Manual. Manual competed as Class A this year. The used to have 1,500 students in that building.

PND is the Marque meet of the three they host. At least on the girls side, there is no comparison

Woodruff has been pretty good the last couple years on the guys side, I don't think any top teams were there recently except for York's JV team, Sandburg, DGN, and I think Schaumburg. Woodruff had NV, WV, StCN, Loyola, DC, and Geneva, as well as Fishers, IN last year, as well as Verzbicas and LWC.

Sorry, we pulled out because its an ACT date, and 4/7 of my top 7 will be taking the ACT. But, I don't think I'll return to Woodruff because of the uncertainty, and because it's a little too early in the season I think.

Peoria Central needs more good boys teams. What are some of the good (qualifying for state on a regular basis) programs that don't run any of the 3? I think its a huge advantage to have a meet down there during the year. You basically go through the same motions as you do at state: staying overnight, racing at Detweiller, etc.

Don't think last year's AAA champ--NN was there and last year's ind. champ team--Conant was there. Maybe I'm wrong.

Naperville North did not run in any of the Peoria meets...they will not be there again this year.

Conant was at Woodruff, but Thode did not run (SAT's I think)...

You're right Conant was there in '08-I didn't look far enough down list--but no Thode & Anderson. Ironically Woodruff was where Thode got his "Detweiler Start" in '05. He ran as a Freshman 18.43 and finished 256 that day. Not a bad improvement to 4 years later.

The latest from the Peoria scene is that they will be merging Woodruff & Central and that the school will continue to host both of the invites.
