Which LI team could have fielded the greatest distance medley of all-time?
I think that Paul Limmer would agree with me that his Mepham outdoor team of 1973-1974 would have to be a shoe-in for top honors. With Norm Goldwire,
Gary Lindquist and Mark Belger, he could have had a cripple run the quarter-mile leg and still come in under 10:00. I think this team would have beaten any John Gregorek led St. Anthony's team.

SEAURCHIN.. wish I could agree with you, but that St. A's team was about 10 sec better... not making excuses for that 1974 team but Lindquist had a 102 fever that day and ran 3:10.2 after having run 3:06 flat the week before in the cold and rain...we expected a 3:03.. he was more than capable. We had a 49 sec leg sitting in the stands, watching gear ( disciplinary thing) and our sub ran 52.3 ..yadda yadda yadda..excuses , excuses.. excuses. Norman ( State 2 mile Champ ) only ran 2:01... Mark ran 4:12+ after 59.0, 2:02.3 splits... We were not as good as St. A's DMR.. no other way of saying it... Mepham's best DMR might have been the 1993 team with Chris Fogarrazzo on anchor. They were the first American team at Penn.. My 1994 ( ?) Penn Relays winners with David Frazer ( current Mepham coach) was a better team than my 1974 team.. they only ran to win and unfortunately the 3 legs in front of David always gave him a monster lead... that team had 4 guys who within the next few years ran 2:58, 48.4, 1:47+ and 4:04 equivalent... just some added info for you to savor.. by the way, that 1974 team had 3 National Record holders ( Goldwire and Lindquist were Nat Fed Indoor 2 mile Run Record Holders- Nat Fed Records had to have been run at State Meets at that time) on it and all 3 were obviously State Champions at one time or another..

Dear Paul-I guess I should open my mouth and my insert my foot. I guess I should have probably made the statement that your 1974 team "potentially"
could have posted the fastest time for the distance medley under ideal conditions. Anyway, you were a great coach and I remember with great fondness running in your summer developmental meets in the early 80's-Thanks for the great memories-"URCH"

Urchenko? is that you? I should have figured it out.. forgive me...
yes, Billy Tschirhart was on that team...an incredibly hard and disciplined worker... he would have rather cut his foot off than miss a workout...
I believe the LI record for the DMR is St. Anthony's... about 10:02+ with Gregorek on the anchor... that's meters...
one year at Penn Relays it was 800-400-1300-1500.... hard to understand the reasoning for that.... and that was the order!

Yup, the LI record is held by St.Anthony's with their 10:02.5 (meters) run at the 1978 Penn Relays.
The 1976 Penn Relays DMR had those oddball distances of 1300m and 1500m. Power Memorial won it with a 10:02.1 over Loughlin's 10:04.6. Their two anchors (Weaver & Ostolozaga) went 3:51.7 and 3:51.8 for the 1500m leg.
