Took a ride down to VCP this week and here (http://www.dyestatmetro.com/?pg=reg1-2009-XC-1-Random-articles-VCP-contrsuction) is an update to the construction

After a series of e-mails and calls to those in the know I have added some more info (including a map) on the construction project. As you will see when you go there in the fall the park will look much different

So what are the odds there will be races there this season? atleast earlier ones?

I believe that most 2.5 mile races will start in front of the tennis courts and finish on Broardway at the traditional college finish. The entrance to the cow path is narrower than it was, but I guess it will work. There is a new fence on the Broardway side of the approach to the finish so spectators will have to stand on the sidewalk. May be crowded.

It is official now. Joe Lanzalotto s post from last week telling us Footlocker will be at Sunken Meadow has been confirmed.
An electronic conversation with MeetDirector Zodda assures us Info will be posted on the web site soonest.

As if the drive from Buffalo, NY to the Bronx, NY, and back, wasn't far enough? You need the 50 additional travel miles, each way, like you need a hole in your head! :( . If there is any silver lining in this cloud, it may be that you won't see them pulling any dead bodies out of the woods, like Alberto Salazar saw right before his race at the Manhattan Invitational.

Don't forget, you can go into Bridgeport, Connecticut and then take the Port Jefferson Ferry over to LI. It's only a 25 minute drive from there to Sunken Meadow and you don't have to fool around with any of the bridges.

Yes haha you see where I'm coming from. It's about seven hours to Long Island. I just thought Vanny was a great course with all of the tradition and stuff, but the construction must of really messed it up. Might be thinking about switching to NXN NY. . .

Just wanted to mention a couple of things:

I know that it is tough for anybody traveling from the far corners of the NE Region, but keep in mind that Sunken Meadow is only an hour or so further than VCP (i.e. if you were willing to go to VCP, SM is really not that much more of a driving issue - though that's easy for me to say because I won't be in a car for many hours ;) ). I'm always interested to know what people generally do that have those 5+ hour drives - just get up really early on race day or drive it the day before and stay overnight some place close to where the race is being held?

Though nothing compares with VCP's legacy, Sunken Meadow also has plenty of history, as it has hosted Feds on 3 occasions and States on 5 occasions - with the last three (1992, 2002 & 2008) being held on the 5k course. It's a great course and as most know, a very challenging one...you gain instant legend status by breaking 16 at SM.

Good luck to you this season.

The List of those under 16 may get a bit longer with FL at the meadow. It's not done too often. Should be exciting.

Thank you. I know what you're saying, you have to be a G to run SM very well. In regards to the long driving trips, I drive up the day before the race and stay overnight so I can be fresh waking up and racing. I'm not sure what other WNY'ers or Section 5'ers do, but I think that's the best method.

It might be interesting to see who's actually gonna stick with Footlocker this year. I'm sure it will be very popular like always of course.

That's great to hear. It's going well. I've narrowed my choices down a little bit and I'm pretty excited for the upcoming official visits.

For those teams coming to the Manhattan Inv there will be a strict restrictions on where you can put your team tents
