I have a pair of Kayanos that everything is really soft, comfortable, and in good shape but since I run 90% of my runs so far on rocky, dusty trail the tread on the bottom is being worn out much too quickly and I am getting to need to replace the shoes. My question is can I do anything like put duct tape on the bottom of my shoes or something to keep the tread from wearing? Anything better? Thanks for your help stat.

Ya, brush on truck bed liner. Ace hardware sells it. Works good!

Do you want the tread on the bottom of the shoes for gripping purposes? If so then follow what the person said before or get a new pair.

If you're associating the tread being gone with the shoe being worn out then don't worry. The tread wares off the shoe far before the shoe's life is up.

Not sure which one you were asking so I thought I'd address both.

What I am saying is that the bottoms are being worn to the foam but there is clearly life left in the shoe because I run on jagged rocky trails a lot so the bottoms wear faster than the life of the actual shoe so I just wanted to reinforce the tread so it lasts equally with the shoe. I don't really care about gripping but I don't want my bottoms to just be foam.

Thanks, the truck bed lining seems doable. Has anyone tried it to give me experienced tips? Does it hurt your foot though because it makes the shoe thicker?

Use masking tape to make a dam around your shoe so it doesn't run down the side. Keep shoe level after applying so the material stays where you want it. You can apply as thinly or thickly as needed. Allow at least 12 hrs. for solidifying.

get a trail shoe. they have stronger tread on the outsole and most good trail shoes have a "rock guard" thing installed in the forefoot that will protect you from rocks. go to a running specialty store and ask them about trail shoes. asics makes some good models of trail shoes if you like the brand.

hijack.

I'm running in NB 904's right now and I've only put ~150 miles on my current pair and there starting to wear out. Not all over but mainly around the ball of my foot and my big toe. My last pair lasted just over 300 miles and I'm exactly halfway there now and they look about the same. Is there any real reason for this other than me pounding harder? My run pace and distance has increased in this pair but I'm still running almost 100% on trails/sand.

I'm going to need a new pair of trainers for the fall anways so would switching to something like the Speedstar-3 (or any other shoe that's ~9 oz.) make that big of a difference in wear or will they wear out the same as the 904's. I'm just looking for something that's gonna be supportive and light like the 904's but will last longer, if that even exists.
