View Full Version : Colorado: Favorite Mountain Run Trail?
Our crew loves to go to Deer Creek Canyon State Park in Littleton. We run up to the Red Mesa Loop. Red Mesa is about a 3 Mile run uphill, with a bit of downhill, from the parking lot. Once their, the loop is 2.5 Miles around with a gentle roll to it. We usually do 2 loops for a total trail run of 11 Miles. Most of this run is through the wood's, with maybe the first 1.8 Miles and of course the last 1.8 out in the open. It's a great run and alot of fun.

Coach Barnes, I am well aware of your great distance program and the good runners that have come out of it. But, I have realized that I know practically nothing about your training philosophy. Would you mind giving us all a little insight as to how you train your runners? Do you use Paavo, Lydiard, Daniels, Michelson Method, et cettera?
I don't really go with any one system. It is more of a feeling type of approach. What I mean is I go with what I see and hear from the kid's and then go with my gut instinct on where to go next. I have never been affraid to change a workout during it or a week's training cycle mid-week if it was needed. All in all our workouts are geared more towards building the athletes mind and then their body's.
