I am a decent hurdler in high school, and this past year my coaches wanted me to high jump b/c they said it helps hurdling. Is this true? I only jump like 5'6", so I don't think it did that much to help me.

i really don't know if it truely will help your hurdling or not. a lot of it depends on your level of hurdling right now. around here, the majority of high jumpers and hurdlers are the same people...coincidence(sp)? i believe that any jumping including high jumping will help just because it trains your explosiveness in your legs. if you can drive over a fairly decent height in high jump, then you will probebly be able to drive yourself over the hurdle. technique wise i don't believe that they have anything to do with each other. all in all i say keep high jumpin unless it takes too much time away from your hurdle training. sorry it's a little vague but i hope it helps.

Nat Page assistant coach at Georgia Tech might be the most famous guy with that background he was national class in both disciplines. Currently David Klech is a great hurdler/HJ in Northern California.

I have never know high jumping to help hurdling. I suppose the preseason training for high jumping, like the lifting and plyometrics and stuff, would carry over to the hurdles though. But in general, there are plenty of other events that will help your hurdling more than the HJ.
