NNHS had their first dual meet against Braintree. The girls and boys both won, girls winning 98 to 38. Simone Weisman was first in the 800 with 2 23, with Szeman Lam in 3rd with 2 28, Katie Mclean wins the mile. Anna Shindler, Haleigh Smith and Kerri Moy all sweep the 2 mile. I won the 400 in 61.5, Azuree Catledge ran the 300 H for the first time in the 50s. As for the boys, Jed Carpenter got 1st in the 400 with Slifer behind, Avery Mitchell ran the 200 with him as well (not sure on places). David Polgar won the 800 with Noah Jampol behind.

Not a bad day. However, I'd say the best part of the meet was the co-ed 4 x 400, with the nnhs boy's varsity and nnhs jv runners running, against the nnhs girl's varsity...in the same heat. Unfortunatley, the girls got 3rd..and Ankit Prakash some how went sub 60 as the 3rd leg..but i still think that i could have gotten closer to him had i not ran in the 4th lane for the first 100 meters...whoops.

its a hand timed split so yea its probably off by a couple tenths, but even if you add half a second, that time is still blazing. i doubt it was off by anymore than that, and even .5 is probably a stretch

you weren't reacting to the sound of the starting gun so the split should actually be very accurate

Well...there are other factors, such as he may have timed him for 195 meters instead of 200. When you're taking handtimed 200 splits outdoors, it's impossible to get a split 200 meters exactly, and impossible to tell which way you error when the handoff is on the other side of the track. People take handoffs at different points of the zones depending on when they take off ect.

See, I personally don't believe any handtimes until the postseason comes around and people back them up, thus jumps and throws are really the only things I consider valid right now.

From the Hockomock League:

Long Jump (Q - 20'):
Robbie Vaughn (North Attleboro) - 21'4"
Fabian Faublas (Canton) - 21'2.5"
Brett McDermott (Mansfield) - 20'4"

Triple Jump (Q - 39'):
Justin Benjaminsen (Mansfield) - 42'3"
Fabian Faublas (Canton) - 41'8"
Gentry Jones (Canton) - 41'5"
Connor Richardson (North Attleboro) - 41'2"
Fjodor Melnikov (Foxboro) - 40'3"
I know there's been another couple of people over 39', but I don't have official results

High Jump (Q - 5'9"):
Shawn Leonard (Stoughton) - 6'
Adrian Li (Canton) - 6'
Robbie Vaughn (North Attleboro) - 6'
Darius Kerikas (Canton) - 5'10"
Jake Nevens (Oliver Ames) - 5'10"

Running Results:

100m (Q - 11.5):
Gentry Jones (Canton) - 10.8 (11.1 today into wind)
Fabian Faublas (Canton) - 11.1
Brett McDermott (Mansfield) - 11.1
Aaron Fears (North Attleboro) - 11.3
Dave Robbins (Foxboro) - 11.3
Anthony Steele (Stoughton) - 11.5

200m (Q - 24.0):
Fabian Faublas (Canton) - 22.9
Gentry Jones (Canton) - 23.1
Brett McDermott (Mansfield) - 23.3
Aaron Fears (North Attleboro) - 23.5
Dave Robbins (Foxboro) - 23.6
Brian Miller (Foxboro) - 23.6
Powell Simpson (Mansfield) - 23.6

400m (Q - 53.0):
Fjodor Melnikov (Foxboro) - 51.6
Pat Murphy (Canton) - 52.8

Does anyone know anything about Jeff Smith from Silver Lake? I was told from my teammates as well as from kids from a team we had a meet against that he ran the 100 hand timed in 10.5, 10.44, I even heard as low as 10.3. Anyone with info, please post! I wont believe it til I see it (have a meet against them next week)

Ecliptica
04-15-2005, 08:41 PM
As I posted in another thread, it's completely believable. He ran, I believe, a 6.5ish FAT time as a sophomore and then disappeared off the track scene until this year. Assume he improves that 6.5ish without proper training and gets some decent coaching and more mature, a 10.3 HANDTIMED (especially if it was the other day when the wind was blowing pretty hard) isn't out of the realm of possibility if he had a nice tailwind to back him up.

Now, I don't think he'll get anywhere close to that FAT, but if it's a handtime, it's possible. Until I see the kid run I have no proof that he's actually that fast, and I have no proof that he's slower.

Looks like MacLeod might be a serious contender in the 300h if he decides to go for that instead of the 110h title, though he is the top returner. I assume Cuhna will try the 110s, and that would actually be a lot closer than the 300h race will be.

Random question on the 4x100m that I doubt anyone can answer. We (Mansfield) ran a 45.1 today in the 4x100 (second place was a 49.x) without one of our stronger legs. So far I haven't seen any teams under 45, so I'm wondering if this is a state-leading time thusfar.

From what I've gathered, it's Mansfield (45.1), North Attleboro (45.3), Minnechaug (45.3), New Bedford (45.5).

There is no EMass seeding meeting. Electronic entries are due by noon on Monday 5/23. No late entries. No provisional entries. Also, there is no longer any need to submit proof of performance with the entries. Coaches now bring that to the meet with them.

Doug Caves doesn't actually have bones or internal organs. Underneath his skin is another slightly smaller Doug Caves and underneath that is yet another even smaller Doug Caves. After the third layer his body is filled with rich, creamy nougat.

Guillmette and MacLeod might finish top 5 at States by themselves, sick times by both of them.
Now, if he's running 38.77 FAT this early, I think MacLeod should go 300h, but is there any chance he'd actually do that come States? That kid loves his 110s.
And Brandon Palmer in the TJ; did he even do that event last year? 45'4" is beast.

The boys team captured the Big Three title with a 74-71 victory over Brockton on Tuesday.

MARCEL CANERY was a huge part of the victory with a 21' 1/4" victory in the long jump, he added a blazing second leg on the victorious 4 x 100m relay team that sped a 44.0 and then clinched the meet with a personal best of 22.8 on New Bedford's very slow and run-down track. Joing Marcel on the relay team was Ross Roballo (second in the long jump and high jump), Stefan Gomes (11'6 personal best victory in the pole vault) and Antwaun Murphy who picked up two key thirds with an 11.3 in the 100 meters and a 38' 1/2" triple jump in his first meet jumping.

William Kennedy recorded another "triple" as he won the triple jump in a personal best 43' 1 1/2", the high jump at 6'0" with three close attempts at 6'4" and the 100m high hurdles in a personal best time of 15.3. Steve Augustine picked up a key third in the high hurdles with a personal best of 16.1.

Jon Medeiros remained undefeated in the discus with a throw of 140'11" with Aaron Larocque picking up a key third while Medeiros was second behind the fast-improving Nick LeBlanc in the shot put (46' 1/2").

Jason DeConti qualified for the Division 1 meet with his personal best time of 2:03.7 in the 800 meters that was good for second while freshman Jeff Rose picked up two seconds with an 11.2 in the 100 and a personal best of 52.3 in the 400m. Dan McMahon ran a personal best of 53.1 in the 400m for a key third.

Brockton's 2nd place finisher in the 800 was DQ'ed, resulting in the loss for Brockton. I have never heard of anybody being DQ'ed in a dual track meet.

Nonetheless, New Bedford is one of those teams that always has a few nasty sprinters/throwers/jumpers. The team will get smashed in dual meets and then come back and win the state meet with their few talented athletes. But this year they're winning their dual meets --- watch out.
