I'm glad to report that the Senate rejected the "Real ID" part from the war supplemental bill on Thursday (where it did not belong in first place). But because the House version of the bill contained the Big Brotherish and anti-immigrant provisions in it, the bill will now go to a House-Senate conference next week. Hopefully the Senate conferees will hold their ground in what could prove to be a heated civil liberties and immigration debate.

Just to remind you, "Real ID" took away the states' right to decide who can drive a car and what should be put on your license.... Under this decision the federal government will decide that, and everybody's drivers license data will be held in a giant federal database. It also prohibits 12-15 million undocumented aliens from getting a license and makes the already strict refugee and asylum laws even more onerous.
