armory track usually gets the rankings up around the third week of competition, so id expect to see them up next monday, after the results from next weekend are in.

The only Long Island Public School on the lists is Port Jeff of Class D I guess Long Island Cross Country really sucks this year.

Is it possilbe for a team to have an A & B team ranked ? Warwick Valley B ( 8-14 man) could be ranked 17th ?

as reiterated in the post above mine kellenberg chaminade and st anthonys are all on long island, and long island almost always manages to get a team in the top 5 and here's the research to prove it

starting from 1999: St. Anthonys 2nd place
2000: Bayport blue point 2nd Chaminade 4th
2001: Northport 5th place
2002: St. Anthonys 3rd Northport 4th
2003: St. Anthonys 3rd Chaminade 5th
2004: Chaminade 5th

unfortunately i don't have any other references beyond that, i'm sure if someone was able to scrap up one of their old federation champs books they could be able to provide more if they wanted too, i believe i left my copy at home though... what i do know is there's a poll on it that says "best team of the 90s" and low and behold a long island team is named number one

I have a feeling that by "public schools," he meant not private schools.

Maybe I'm wrong but I got the sense that he was talking about public schools because his only fact on there was about public schools.

Not trying to make this big, just don't hammer the guy if he did only mean public schools.

Of course not... they would never compete at a top varsity level or at any meet where only top 7 are allowed. It would be pointless (and embarassing for some).

AnchorMan

yea Warwick Valley "B" is good enough to be state ranked but i doubt it would be alowed

Please go back and read my statement again. It said that the only Long Island PUBLIC school that was ranked was Port Jeff. I am fully aware that St A's, Chaminade and Kellenburg are all very good teams. Actually to take it a step further, the statement I made was sarcastic. Truthfully I really don't know how good the Long Island Public teams are as yet. The problem is, nobody even looked at them. There was a big meet at Sunken Meadow this weekend and I believe that it was not even considered in anyones rankings. The meet is posted on Armory track & XC site, the Just in time track & XC site and the Suffolk County Track & XC site. Smithtown and SWR both put up some very good early season times and should both be in their respective class top 20's. This really is not a big deal in the great scheme of things but a little recognition would be nice for Section XI. Thank you for your time.

The meet at Sunken Meadow this past weekend was not a typical meet.
It was run by "Class" Frosh against frosh, sophs against sophs and so on.
Very hard to determine which schools were overall best. If someone wants
to score it out merging all of the races I would be glad to look at it and
consider the results for future rankings.

I would be happy to merge the class groups, score it out for you. Can I do it on an excel spread sheet? Where do I send it. Thanks!

If you score it out that way, send it to me at tim@armorytrack.com and I'll post that as well. It really is impossible to see how good teams are.

I feel rankings this early are really useless anyways. You have to give it a couple of weeks so that every team can attend at at least one big race and run hard. To rank one team that ran all out compared to a team that worked through the meet isn't right. After a couple of weeks, once everyone has raced hard, we'll see who's ranked where.

As far as Jim Smith these seemed to be the top 5 teams, ill plug these times into a simulated race later and check the results. Correct me if i missed a runner on a team or you think any other teams did better than these 5

Smithtown:
17:16
17:44
18:33
18:41
19:20

SWR:
17:49
18:24
18:34
20:09
20:20

Massapequa:
18:02
18:37
18:50
18:51
18:56

St.John:

18:09
18:19
18:39
18:56
19:27

West Islip:
17:31
17:57
18:50
18:50
19:15

Edit: After scoring it, hopefully my math is right, i got these results:

Smithtown: 50
West Islip: 59
St. Johns: 71
Massapequa: 72
SWR: 73

As you can see the meet was very close and with the inclusion of 6th and 7th men the results may have changed, especially amongst the 3-5 teams. Smithtown was greatly aided by its frontrunning power, with the 1st and 3rd best times amongst the runners from these 5 teams, though there 5th man was 22nd, making it interesting between them and West Islip. Again, my math might not be perfect so dont jump all over me. However, I dont see how Smithtown was ranked in the top 20 in state, but w/e.

Also not to criticize or anything, but was just wondering what warranted Ithaca's high ranking in the state. Im unfamiliar with the elmira course, so maybe it was extremely difficult, otherwise i dont see whats so special about an average time of over 18 minutues and there fifth man coming in at 19:15

Just an FYI, Smithtowns # 2 guy Pelligrino went down at the top of Cardiac with heat exhaustion and dnf. The same thing happend to Hayes of SWR about 200 meters from the finish line and he is also SWR's # 1 or 2 guy. I believe they are both ok. 4 or 5 runners went down at SM on Saturday, it was pretty scarey.

jesus kids went down everywhere it seems, i almost made the incorrect statement of saying that kids didn't pass out in our 8k meet at vcp, but then i remember a saw one kid go down during the NYU invite which was right before the Fordham Invite and i think another kid or two went down at the Fordham Invite and we raced early, 1145 was the last race of the day for college races

also remember smithtown had #1 and #3 in the frosh race, and swr had #2. I know for a fact that the swr runner ran 18:40s for the 3mile at a daul meet. I'm sure the smithtown kids are right around there too.

ok true, i was just using 5k times. It obviously wasnt pelligrinos day to begin with as i passed him at cardiac just as he went down, normally hed probably be way ahead of me. But as for who actually completed 5k on saturday those are the results i got. And the fact that pelligrino went down and even furthers my point that smithtown was robbed by not being ranked, but o well, thats what the rest of the seasons for.

Don't forget Middle Country '95. I believe they were Fed Champs. Also Longwood '90. I don't think we should include catholics in the rankings until Fed time. They have they're own rankings anyway.

Who cares about these stupid rankings. I used to care, but it's all BS. We beat the crap out of our kids in 100% humidity just to see our team on a list. I think all rankings should be outlawed until Oct. You need weeks to really evaluate things.

Federation selection ( if you're not a blue chipper ) comes down to the good ole' boy club in the little room at states. I've seen teams on these "rankings" not get invited to Feds. ( I'm not talking about classes B,C,D )

That's amazing. I hear that back in the day, LI used to totally dominate the state in XC.

i was more so responding to this trying to say that li running is quite as ****t* as he thinks and then i was gonna follow that up by pointing out the individual winner at feds has been from long island in four of the past 5 years

tullyrunners.com has state and section 3 rankings, altho unofficial, they tend to match up quite well
