Which is preferred for distance races?

1,600 meters or One Mile Run ?
3,200 meters or Two Mile Run ??

State your opinion and your reasons.

i dont think that the 1500/3000 should be in there because they are different distances. if you were talking about the mile you wouldn't use 1500 because they arn't the same.

All three are different distances, that's the point. However, the events are substitutes for one another depending on the state/meet.

1500 and 3000 are the international standards. I'd rather go by them, but if not, mile and 2 mile. 1600/3200 are the stupidest distances ever invented.

i'll say 1500 3000 too just because of olympics and what not, but 1600 3200 does make sense. then it would go 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, multiplied by two every time, its perfect!

I think he means they are more significantly different....1600 and Mile are basically the same thing whereas the 1500 and 3000 are quite a bit less similar.

Wait, how do you correctly spell that word?

Right, but they are all used for substitutes for one another, despite the difference in length.

i see your point, but then you forget about the 5k and 10k...which dont fit in to the x2 method

It bothers me when people say these distances are so stupid because they make so much sense. A track is 400 meters long, doesn't it make more sense to run 4 or 8 times around it then 4.whatever, and 8.whatever, or 3.25, or 7.5? Also the 1500 and 3000 mean nothing to amercians, whereas the 1600 and the 3200 are understandable to the non runner american because they are so close to the mile and 2 mile. Maybe in europe the 1600/3200 dont make sense, but in America they are the moset logical races to run. Also what azn at large said about 100-200-400-800-1600-3200. The 1600 and the 3200 weren't invented, they just make sense.

The men have never run the 3k at the Olympics and I'm pretty sure the women don't anymore either. Essentially the 3000/3200/2 mile are only outdoor distances for high school athletes. It is not a championship event for the NCAA either.

What if your track is 440 yd long?

Either way, the 1600 (and 3200) are stupid. They are for lazy people who won't take the time to measure out starting lines for the classic events. Why would you stop just 9 m short of a classic distance like the mile?
