We don't have an indoor season  :( . there are two meets at a near college with a high school division, but there is very little competition. I actually play hockey during this time, which for those of you that have never played, it is really helpful in jumping. it doesn't involve jumping, but you get mad strength in the quads just by the basic skating motion(plus i wear weights during practices to help develope speed) my goals for the outdoor season are 23 in long and 47 in triple. they are definately a reach, but goals are meant to be difficult.

This is my first year doing indoor and any jumping events. If I do them hopefully I'll get 17' in long and 5' in high.

we dont have an indoor
very reasonable goal for this upcoming season 44"
i dont really know what to aim for since i hadnt started jumping til this past
summer where i basicaly taught myself how to TJ, turns out im decent at it :)
and i dont really know how much one improves so i set it pretty close to what i was jumping anyways

aight.. here it is for me:
Long Jump.. my pr is 20'... indoors though, its only 18'10"?.. i know its less than 19'.. so indoors this year I'm shooting for 20', right now at least..
Triple Jump... my pr is 41'6"... indoors its just 40' flat.. 43' at the NYC Armory should be somewhat easily doable by the end of the winter.. and then I'll go from there.
I dont know if you guys have noticed, i make goals that I have a very good chance to achieve.. i prefer this way.. so then i can break goals more often.. which motivates me to break even more.. etc.. etc..
my overall goal though, is to make states this year.. we'll see how that goes :)

I think you should be able to hit those goals, Aidan.
I remember last spring (err, winter. . .I didn't LJ in the spring because of my hamstring) I kept setting my goals for like 3" further than the past week, I find that's the best way to do things rather than go for 22' if you're a 20'6' jumper.
No indoor season for me, haven't done anything but lift since June. . .guess I'll revisit this thread come March or whenever outdoor officially starts.

aidan where are you from? Cause I'm from NJ and go to the NYC armory all the time. Indoor my goal for LJ is over 20'6", last spring i jumped 21'1". For my better event, triple jump, hopefully I'll be jumping 46+. Last spring i broke 46 twice. The only problem is its so hard to train for LJ/TJ because there is always snow in my school's pit and we only have a gym to practice in, or run when its like 30 degrees out.

yeah.. same with me.. training in the gym on mats sucks..
I go to John Jay High School in East Fishkill New York.. as long as i Know who to look for, i'm sure i'll see you at the armory this winter.. hispanic games.. newbalance invite... Eastern States for sure

as u can see from near the top my goal for my first season in indoor, my PR in spring last year was 18'4 but has improved cuz i took a fun jump and got around 18'5 so is 19s too low of a goal or should i strive for 20s

It is really up to you how you choose to set goals.. if I was you, I'd say 19' as a good starting goal.. Once you hit that, try to hit it consistantly.. have a goal of hitting 19' 3 meets in a row, or something like that.. and when the conditions are right, go for 20'.. Good Luck!

goals depend on the type of person you are. if you are the type that needs to be constantly remotivated by reaching a low goal then go for it. i personally like setting really high, but still reachable, goals to keep myself from becoming content with mediocrity. i would rather shoot for 47 in triple and only hit 46 instead of shooting for 45 and staying there. last year i didn't hit my long jump goal until the state qualifier, and my triple goal wasn't reached until my second to last jump of the season. there are many ways to aproach goals, just choose one that fits your style and has potential to push you to your potenial. good luck :D

Pretty sweet, i want to hit 6' in high jump, and i'm working hard to do it. If i can it'll be monumental.
Good Luck Azn BTW.

coming in from my first track year and getting basically 38 feet ( 37 feet 11 inches and some kind of other units lol) i think that my goal for my sophmore year is 40 feet hoping that i can find soem new work outs and such to increase my jumps.

chris.. i was wondering when you would start posting again :P
I give my athlete's two goals a realistic one and an unrealistic one.
For my long jumper her realistic goal would be 6.8 meters her unrelistic goal would be 7.0 meters her best jump last year was 6.45.
For my triple jumper her realistic goal would be 12.19 meters and her unrelistic goal would be 12.80 meter her best jump last year was 11.90.

Just something for you jump lovers to keep an eye on when the season eventually rolls around here in WI like 4 months from now, there should be a couple >50 foot jumpers from the Milwaukee area this year. Both of them work with my old club coach from HS and dood will have em rolling when its time for them to shine. the one who is most impressive was state champion last year as a sophomore with a 48'11" jump and has also gone 23'8" in LJ.
