Hello All...
I am a 20 year old runner who ran half-heartedly thru my high school career and had some mediocre times... I stopped running for about a year after graduating in 2003, then came back to running 4-6 miles a day and within a few weeks was doing 50+ miles a week... Was considering running summer road races last summer, but ended up not competing in a single one... In November '04 (last fall) I started helping out with my old high scholl cross team and have been helping out ever since (track distance guys)... Right when I started helping out, I jumped right into 55+ mile weeks with the guys and ended up getting shin splints due to lack of stretching... I took about 3 weeks off and came back doing about 35-40 and have been hitting that consistently ever since... I really want to pick up my mileage and start doing some great workouts so I can run some local Mile/5K/10K races this summer, but am worried I may injure myself again... I also would really like to compete in the October Marathon in Chicago... Anyone got some advice for some good training or advice on how many races I should compete in without risking injury?
If you are interested, I listed below my PR's in 2003 and my goals for this summer... Am I just unrealistic or are these possible? I know like many of you, I am competitive and will be disappointed if I dont reach these... Thanks!
