View Full Version : Looking for a Chris Pisano...

I Gotta Go Faster

I'm being recruited to GW, and the coach said that the other main freshman recruit is a guy named Chris Pisano from Jersey, wondering if he's on here or not...it'd be cool to talk to the guy I'm supposed to be training with for the next 4 years.

I believe GW refers to George Washington Unviversity, also in DC. Not Georgetown.

Im Collin Stevenson from WA, placed 7th at USATF JO XC Nationals 15.47 5k, i run a slow 4.26 mile and a decent 9.25 3200M. Yah, i had originally hoped to go to Georgetown, but George Washington's not a bad second. Has a really good international studies program, and the team will turn around under the new coach. Is chris on here though?

If I am correct GW only has a cross country team, right? So he is finished with track I guess.

If you are looking for a D.C. program I suggest American University. Great campus, coached by former US 5000m record holder Matt Centrowitz with a super upcoming team.

19th at last year's NCAA championships...some very good recruits this year.

Kevin Tischirt for certain. Got a couple of other things they are working on.

Steve Hallinan and Brian McCabe are freshman.

The Eagles are on the rise!

they sure are, the holmdel relays with pisano running the 1200. i was on that site at the same time as this, and figured i'd put some pictures in that aren't easy to find for the kid thats asking about pisano.

Yeah... right after the dig Fennell out of his grave. Centrowitz runs people into the ground, that is fact.

Strong words, but can you cite another example?

The same Brendan Fennell who finished 9th at MA XC Regionals this fall? The same guy who led an excellent squad to the big dance for the first time in who knows how long? The guy who was a pure miler in high school and now whips up on people on the XC courses? The rest of the team has also done very well. I really would like to see you name a few people who went there and "burned out" as that's what you're implying.

This has personal written all over it. Why anyone would attack Centro and the AU guys is beyond me. I'm guessing you applied there and didn't get in, or you talked to him and he let you know you weren't fast enough to run for them. If it's not one of these then please explain yourself -- I'd really love to know what you're beef is with that program.

Paramount: you're certainly right. 19th at NCAAs is very impressive.

First AU appearance at Nationals since 1971. Centrowitz was in high school then.

And Matt, I don't think Centrowitz has anything to do with this; he'll give a chance to just about anyone who is willing to put the effort in. Fab's issues are his own.

Gotta disagree with you about Matt. I have known him for a long time although I haven't seen him in years. He's just pretty much an old school guy who believes that if you want to race fast you have to train fast and hard. He's not alone in that at all.

Im just glad that people are visiting that site. I think i remember running against the guy who runs that site and he's doing a pretty good job with it. It's real nice to see him post free meet pictures, instead of those sites that dont let you right click and save them to your hard drive.

about how fast you have to be in order to be able to run for them as a walk on?

From seeing Centro coach the Enclave guys, I would say he sometimes takes it too EASY on his runners. Run hard on hard days. Recover on recovery days. Not much different than what anyone else in the country is doing.

Haha, the day I apply to American.... maybe if I was from an Arab Gulf state, and would be able to fit in with the 26% of the student body that is listed as "International", my comments are of no personal consequence, I have never known or corresponded with Matt Centrowitz.

I should have ended my prior comment at the Fennell remark. Centrowitz is a good coach, and has done a lot of good for the program.

Clearly you've never visited, and again you're misinformed. Have fun up at Syracuse. I'm sure there's none o' them Ay-rabs up there. ;)

Matt Centrowitz is a great guy. Anybody who loves distance running would enjoy hanging with him. About as regular a guy as you could ever meet. Loves to talk about the old Armory and Vanny and all the guys from that era.

His times and results back in his competitive day speak for themselves. Unless you are being coached by Salazar, your coach never ran as fast as Matt.

But being a fast runner doesn't make you a good coach. So let's look at Matt has done.

It is true that AU made their first NCAA appearance since 1971. That's because the school de-emphasized the program right under former NJ stars Dave Reinhart and Gary Cohen's nose. By 1979 they were out of XC and Track at DI.

Then along comes Matt. He takes HS guys like Sean O'Brien and turns him into s sub four minute miler. Pat MacAdie was a 9:40 HS two miler. This year an NCAA All-American. You almost can't find a guy who beat him at the NCAA's who didn't run a sub 9:00 in HS.

And Brenden Fennell: a serious injury I think as a Sr. in HS. Looked like he would never run again. But he's back and back in a big way.

Now AU is starting to get some A list talent like Hallinan and Tischirt.

Watch these guys in the DMR at Penn. Let's see some posts on AU after that!

I better get used to it, considering I want to work for a Republican administration. :D
