Who do you think will win border wars?

Edit: and who will be the scoring 5 for each state?

The meet scores 15 from each state.

On the boys you ar looking at 5 of the folowing:

AZ
Tolan Thorton - Northland Prep
Donovan Tsinnijinnie - Page
Levi Lomeland - Page
Nathan Lee - Page
Weston Jones - Red Mesa
Bryce Livingston - Salpoint
Matt Rowell - Blue Ridge
Garrett Kelly - Desert Vista
I'ms sure I'm leaving out a couple.

NM
Matt Tebo - Eldorado
Ryan Nez - Navajo Prep
Ryan Mc Niff - Los Alamos
Ben Johnson - Academy
Simon Gilna - Los Alamos
Dustin Martin - Academy
Nick Arguellas - Highland
Obed Hernandez - Cobre
Matt Everett - La Cueva

Between the two states it is going to be close. Page and Academy showed how close the two states are. Tebo and Thorton have similar track times.

not saying NM will win, but this is the best year individually for boys since I don't know when. Tebo is probably top 10-15 in the nation and McNiff and Johnson probably have outside shots at FL Nationals as well. If NM were to beat AZ, this is the year. Of course, Academy could opt out of Border War again if they make NTN which would seriously hurt NM's team. On a side note, I'm curious to see how out of state runners do at Academy's course given its recorded history.

Arizona also has James Bogner. Look for him at AZ State Meet. Also a few other top runners. Matt Tebo will take the win.

What about the NM Girls. They have a strong team that could beat Arizona. Vanessa Ortiz, Cibola; Irena Ossola and Tess Amer from St. Michael's all seem to be as fast or faster than Kristen Hemphill was last year when she finished 4th. The girls are also deeper this year. I think the top NM Girl could possibly beat AZ's Hardt.

Arizona is without Hardt on the girls side, and Thorton on the boys.
New Mexico looks to be without some of the Eldorado girls.

New Mexico is just too dominating up front, with Tebo and McNiff specifically ... and they could put their first 5 in before AZ's #3.

But, since it is scored through 15 ... Arizona still has a shot. But I'll give the edge to NM.

Enough talk!!!

Actually the "talk" has been pathetic at best!

But really, who is the best?

New Mexico has the "Glamour Names" Tebo, Johnson, Martin, Gilna, McNalley, Arguellas, and the like, but can they really stand up to Arizona???

Arizona has never lost in the border wars. Is New Mexico good enough to stand up to AZ?

Well history says yes NM can hang, and possibly dominate. We'll all find out Saturday!!!!

I don't think NM will dominate. Remember it is scored 15 deep. I do feel that the NM kids and the AZ kids are fairly even - case in point Page and Academy at Gallup.

Tebo is good. After that thre is not much difference. It all depends on how well the AZ kids manage the course. 2 points - one, at altitude you need to run smart early, and two, on the long slight uphill first mile of AA course you need to run smart early.

it had something to do with not bordering new mexico...and other states saying we aren't good enough...and everyone in nevada being poor...

I've also heard that after last year's Border War II, what NM and AZ really wanted was to put together a Four Corners Border War with Utah and Colorado, and thus whether Nevada came or not wasn't a big concern. I guess they couldn't get it together with UT and CO for this year, but maybe next year.

Nevertheless, I can understand Nevada's concern about travel cost.

New Mexico defeated Arizona again this weekend at the Footlocker West Regionals. In the Boys it was 94-108 with NM earning 3rd and AZ earning the 4th position. In the Girls NM won 90-102 with NM earning 2nd place honors.

New Mexico had the tougher team this year and no one can play the altitude card when looking at Border War III.
