I don't think that they even make rubber bottomed sprint/jumping spikes...

jumping indoors on gym floors is just nasty to begin with. are you talking for practices or meets?

I've actually never gotten around to buying jumping shoes. I've worn the asic 15-50 for all my jumps. They have a rubber bottom and good cushion in the heel, so they are good for triple.

practice and meets.. although i try to use our outdoor runway when i can.. winter its always snowed in.. i just dont practice triple too much in the winter.. just do it at meets mostly, which sucks.. but i get hurt practicing it on a gym floor..

luckily, we do have like 5 meets this year on NICE surfaces (the NYC Armory, and a nice indoor facility in New Haven, Connecticut).

I found a shoe last year, the Puma Fass, that worked ok for me.. i jumped 40' a few times in them on the gym floor, which isnt bad, considering my pr is only 42' outdoors.. so i think i'll just stick with them.. too bad though that no one makes a rubber soled sprint/jump shoe

:P

well as far as practices go, you should never practice directly on a gym floor. Put down some wrestling mats and practice on those. For practice shoes, a basketball shoe, or a solid running shoe with good support and a decent heel works best.

now as far as meets go, I would completely skip any meet that requires you to triple jump on a gym floor. Its horrible to make a high school triple jumper compete in a situation that is going to put that much stress on their body as that type of surface does to a triple jumper. All this does is lead to undue injuries in meaningless meets.

however, i do understand that there are coaches out there that don't share my view point and want their jumpers jumping at every meet regardless. If this is the case, try to limit the amount of jumps you take on this type of surface. As far as shoes, the best you can do is simply trying to find a decent flat and going with that. Theres really not much out there in jump shoes that are usable on that type of surface.

just curious, do you have a sand pit in the gym or do you land on mats or something? that sounds like a bad situation to be jumping. good luck and don't get injured.

i rarely practice triple jump in the winter.. for that exact reason, that landing on mats is not a smart thing to do.. sometimes ill do a little phase work, and land on the high jump mats.. but pretty much i just jump in meets until the spring, when the snow clears... during the winter, i focus more on general strength and plyometrics to get ready for some speed/jump training in the spring......

but yeah.. not the best of situations, for sure
