Bobby P looked great. He's in better shape than he thinks! 8:29.08, going away at the end (finished in 2:07.5).
Congratulations, Bobby. You're a Penn winner, and that says a lot.

Also, Jim Wyner ran a great leg on Cornell's DMR, which finished 3rd in the Championship section. I did not have a watch on him, but looked as though Wyner ran in the 1:49.0 range (maybe a touch faster).

No exact idea on Wyner split..But tried to figure it off what their 400 had run for open..he ran 49.22 a week ago, same guy, so I gave him 48.5 that gives Wyner between 1:49.5 - and 50.00

Actually Wyner ran a 1:48.5 with a bad handoff. Went out hard and died a little, 51.5 first lap.

saw carmody on anchor for 4xmile

would really like to know his DMR splits and 4 x mile..
there was only one anchor I believe under 4:05 yards in 4 x mile yesterday..many runners struggled a little this past weekend.
Jimmy Wyner was not one of them.
What a year he is having.

Carmody and Harry Norton were listed in the program on the Dartmouth DMR
I was down on the infield and couldn't see the exact spot for the handoffs, but these are close (+/- 0.25):
Norton (freshman) 4:07.xx
True (freshman) 4:07.xx
Quinn (senior) 4:12.xx
Carmody (freshman) 4:16.xx
(16:43.xx Dartmouth 2nd best all-time)

Thanks Max.
Totally expected that from Harry. He went 4:07pt full mile indoors. Nice work by Ben True. I would have guessed 4:08high, so the 4:07pt is very nice. The mile is just a bit too long for 800 guy Carmody.
Edit: Keep in mind that these times are all full miles, unlike the DMR anchors who ran 1600m

I think that Carmody can - and will - run really well in the mile. Right now I suspect he is running considerably higher mileage than HS and is probably tired from all the distance. However, Penn Relays is hardly a key meet for these guys, and it is still early season in the cold of New Hampshire - it snowed at their meet last week-end!
Look for Carmody to get much stronger over the next twelve months: then he'll probably have more fun racing the mile!
All the best,
Max.

I agree with Max..Carmody has run 3:54 1500m which is obviously shorter than the mile and would lend itself porportionately faster
But I think next year he goes sub 4:10, then faster and faster..just my own opinion..that and the fact that he essentially PR'ed at the distance by over 6 seconds year over year at least..way more if you allow 1500 conversion

Max, thanks for the mile info on Carmody. Did you get any 800 splits on him?

05-02-2005, 04:21 PM
Sorry, no. I think he ran the 4x400 and the 4xMile only. (I could be wrong...I often am).
All the best,
Max.
