First to answer Tach4444, who I appreciate as an ardent supporter of Bobby Papazian of late...although I gotta wonder where's the insight??? Seen any of his dual meet results...ooofah! Ed Grant's reference was when back in his sophomore year, Bobby was not able to garner Ledger All-State consideration or compete at NJSIAA stuff (like Scotland now) as Gill St. Bernards was not an NJSIAA member. They became eligible for the 2003-2004 school year.

One major thing that hasn't been mentioned about the DMR...Horel went down hard on the leadoff, got up and finished off OK, but clearly cost them a few ticks there. That said, the rest of the Colts all looked a bit off. So much for the conversions and predictions on Newton North. Their dreadlocked leadoff ran 3:05...which spelled doom for all with Barnicle on the end. He will be a MONSTER at Arkansas...eventually a sub-4 guy, valuable relay guy at 4xmile, and 8:20's steepler, 13:40 type.

This is overstating the obvious in a way, but Nick Willis is the rarest of rare breeds...I've never seen anybody like him, and I've seen big runs for Quintana, Lassiter, Holman, Sullivan, etc...I've been at US National and NCAA meets and seen some bigtime guys training on the track...I've never seen anybody who runs like Willis...not Lagat, not Marc Davis, Kennedy, Todd Williams...he's truly special. Those who get to watch him again tomorrow...pay attention and appreciate it.

Agreed. Willis is truly great. He almost skips around the track. That Michigan DMR was is a real good one, and this is not one of the better Razorback DM teams. A little vulnerable, in part, due to the loss of 1200 legger Sam Vasquez. The Hogs can't win em all at Penn (just the majority ;) )

The Horel fall was scary, as he clipped spikes with the runner from my Alma Mater, and nearly took him out too (YIKES!). Those two guys handed off right next to each other indoors, and would likely have done the same today. If so, the fall would have cost Horel and CBA 4 full seconds (which seems about right).

The key to Newton North's DMR is Jr-David Polgar. 13:00 @ VCP coupled with 2:33+ 1k indoors, he'll be next years 800 pound Gorilla in Mass.
Physically , he reminds me of MCentowitz/MBelger, hasnt risen to their HS talent level as yet.

Scotty ..you have to give me minor props here..I had NN at 3:06.5 on 12 I was not far off at all..Barnicle who is GREAT by the way was out too fast and that CAN run faster
As far as grote observations go.MAJOR props to Bobby P who was so much the best today or yesterday it was scary

Bobby closed down in 2:07.4 and 61.0x

The many of you need split taking 101.. :D

Grote,

FYI, that 3:02.6 that Lyle Smith of Bernards supposedly ran, never happened. I checked the alltime splits list yesterday, and he ran 3:04.4 on the 1200 leadoff that day.

I saw that actually...was disappointed by it...I just go by the legend and nostalgia that is passed down over the years. There have been many of them from Bernards at Penn...even Lyle remembered 3:02...oh well, still not bad for a soph. For what its worth, yesterday's 3k is definitely high on the list of great and proud moments from Mine Mt. Road Dept. affiliates.

No doubt...especially as ole BP revved it up entering the final turn. Quite a day.

Star Ledger had Bobby closing in 66?

I had 2:07.4 last 800..about 1:32 last 600 and 61.1 last 4

Also Jimmy Wyner goes 1:48.5 yesterday ..followed up by 4:07.6 today..aye aye aye!!

i had his seventh lap from the starting line in 62 and his last lap from the finish line in 61. it's two bad the first mile wasn't a bit faster. he really looked like he had a lot left at the end of the race, which he ran pretty much perfectly based on the results.

Bonger, makes perfect sense thats almost exactly what I had..he was really moving last 600..Bobby may have PR'ed for 600 yesterday!! :D

Perfect plan and execution , one hard drive from 1000M out..

Bobby looks to me as if he will run way low at 32/two miles in another 5-6 weeks

Zagorski (4:13.0) got the stick a coupla tenths in the lead, and was passed in the first 100m. He gradually lost ground and was passed again at 1000m. He remained in third to the line. He was in no way alone.
