View Full Version : What scares the **** out of you?

It's the midnight hour, what makes your skin crawl? I was doing a search for a good image of a face with tears a while back and one of the images that came up was a painting called The Crying Boy or something like that. I won't do a search to give you a link because I will not look at the thing again by choice. It made my skin crawl for some reason I couldn't put my finger on, and clicking the link to open the page it was on, I learned there was a legend associated with the painting. The boy who modeled for the thing supposedly died in a fire shortly after; and since then homes that have a reproduction of this painting hanging are reportedly going up in flames with no apparent cause, all too often. I don't know about that, but it felt evil to me and gave me a real dose of the creeps before I knew anything about the story that went along with it.
I have worked alone in autopsy rooms with human cadavers out on the tables, dangled in bosun's chairs from high structures, even shared housekeeping with women who I knew were on the verge of sliding a knife between my ribs as I slept. No problem. But under no circumstances would I ever enter a structure that I knew housed that painting.
Wierd.

For me, what really gets me going is the thought of swimming in the open with sharks.

always available for a political quip, eh, Td? ;) Not that I don't agree, but...
what scares me?
The Bush Administration.
the thought of what our country would be like after 9/11 with gore as president

umm, would have the events of 9/11 even happened if Gore was the President?
What, pray tell, do you seriously think Pres. Gore could have done to single-handedly stop the 9/11 attacks?

Understood the intelligence reports about Bin Laden's intent to attack us?
;)
Just playing devil's advocate. I rarely get involved in political debate, and have no real intention of doing so here.

Haha, even the scary ghost story thread turns political down here before it can get off the ground.
Oh well...

Open stairways and sidewalk grates scare me to no end.
I don't think I have a fear of heights, just a fear of falling.

Made eye contact with a Grizzly while hiking in Montana and saw what a Cougar did to my uncle’s Lab, refuse to enter the woods without my .357 and KBar.
...and KBar.
Know what to do with one of those?

Going down on an escalator.
Something running in front of my truck when I'm driving.
Open fields.

It used to be that I could go up on the escalator, but not down.
Now I can go up and down with no trouble.

Oh, I can go up and down escalators. It's just that I really concentrate on making my step when I'm going down.
to tell you the truth i'd have to say large, deep bodies of water where you can't see land except on the horizon...
deep sea fishing trip in alaska was the worst part of the trip and probably the worst 9hours of my life. i was puking for 8 hours straight(nojoke). after about an hour it was just dry heaving and everyonce in a while i'm get this acid like yellowy stuff....not a pleasant outing.

I think we both saw that news report on channel 7 many years back talking about the dangers of escalators.

Oh, I can go up and down escalators. But ... can you go up down escalators? Or down up escalators?
I would think the latter would feel really wierd.

The Chernobyl story. It's more scary than anything I've thought of for as long as I can remember.
