Great article....I remember watching that race...the move Graves put on the pack in the middle of the race was unbelievable...the only reason he won that race was because of that move. Spivey was closing on him at the end...he made up 10 seconds in the last 1/2.

Also, the writer of this article, Jim Ailshie, used to run at Prospect in the late 70's. He ran on their state team in 78 (I think he was 81st around 15:18) and ran 4:24.3 in the 1600 as a sophmore. He transferred out of state after that season. That is why he has the insight on Illinois running.

Looks like Griff has a great taining partner. Tom moved into Illinois(before his HS career) and joined a great teammate Tom Hicks on the Sandburg team. Interesting to me that Griff moved also. Weren't there some rumor last year that they may move back to Illinois?
