7:26 4x800. Not shabby. Heard that the splits were something like:
Meeks: 1:48.x
Houtmann: 1:50.x
Tripp: 1:55.x
Some other guy: 1:53.x
Houtmann = 1:50 as a freshman = stud.

He is an amazing talent. Started out in T&F as a triple jumper and decided to run xc as a junior. As a senior he ran 48.4 on the third leg of our 3rd place 4x400m and ran 14:59 at Detweiller. ISU was the only school that recruited him!

The "other guy" was Joe Marcin from Hersey (and Macarthur Jr. High). This was a nice breakthrough for him.

Sorry. Thought it was 1:53. He's been stuck at 1:56-7 for a while. I know he hasn't done what people thought he might after finishing 3rd in IESA CC back in 98 (ahead of Cobrin and Romo) but he's a good guy who works hard.

Houtman busted out like a 4 24 last year in a mile time trial by himself. I'm sure he could have been under 4:18 if he had run the mile in a big invite or state.
