05-02-2005, 05:15 PM
no, that 2.00 flat is an error me and my coachs worked it out
they claim he ran it in the first three meets of the season
it doesn't work because yearwood ran the fastest 800 time the first meet
and woodstocks second meet was againts NFA and a a Jv runner won that race, it can not be a relay split because nfa 4x800 C team ran down their A team that day and tied them
and the third meet was at the rockville where they were not in the same heat as faster school and the 2.00 time should of gave their school alittle bust up in the ranks

I guess the kid actually ran the 2:00.03 400!! not 800. So when you were going to finish he just decided to finish the race halfway through. Nice mix up.

Fitch vs. Nfa is going to be a great meet..However i think NFA is the most dominant team in the ECC maybe even in the state...if they win ECCs it will be like their 3rd time in a row

My memory also seems to remember a different team winning the ECC Men's Regular Season Title 3 years back. Perhaps that was the Fitch team. So I also don't see where the 4 straight titles is coming from either.

Which just so happens doesn't mean anything...good job at winning it but people do their best events...not everyone does all the events they can do because it would sacrifice winning an event or two even though if they did more they could possibly get more points...the only thing about the ecc meet is a bragging right but I would say that the regular season title, which counts for something, is an even bigger bragging right

You can qualify for mannnyyy different kinds of meets, but they all don't matter, sort of like Middletown Invite this weekend you have to qualify but its definatly not an important meet that matters for anything. I would say states counts yes and the ECC Meet does matter some individually, but I wouldn't say it matters too much for teams. Of course you want to win it but again the further you get in the season the more you want to do individually then for the team. Track is a team sport, dual meets count for the team title just like any other sport where each game counts for the title.
Who are you anyway distancefool, we all would like to know...i assume most likely some distance guy on the nfa track team.

I agree...the winner of the ECC championship may not be the best team everyone is just trying to win on that particular day...however in dual meets each team is just trying to win..so how is winning the regular season title any different than winning the ECC championship? except there are a lot more schools competing at one time

the only difference is that you have jv runners, jumpers and throwers in dual meets and at the ecc you have the varisty going out there to get the job done

Groton — The simple answer, which is usually sufficient, is, “NFA has Myles Bradley.” But the Norwich Free Academy boys' track team's success produces an astonishing litany of explanations. Tuesday's matchup of Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division powerhouses NFA and Fitch simply served to highlight the reasons the Wildcats have ample confidence in defending their State Open title. A 91-59 victory will do that. “They just have a great team,” Fitch coach Rich Kosta said. “We just gave it all we could ... and they were able to fill up those relays and wear us down.” If the Wildcats want to stick out their chest, they can follow the lead of Josh Robertson, who's torso was the difference between a win and a loss in the 800. It was his ability to run under control, though, that yielded greater results. Fitch threw its four best distance runners into the opening event — the 4x800-meter relay — and NFA's quartet responded with a school-record time that was four-seconds faster than the Falcons. Robertson, running the anchor leg, stayed composed even as Fitch's Ken Yearwood began to chop into his sizable lead. For a lap and a half, as Yearwood's comeback began to whip his Falcons' teammates in the infield into a frenzy, Robertson ran the controlled race his coaches wanted. The last 200 yards, Robertson finally let loose and won comfortably. With the energy he saved, Robertson was able to close the gap on Yearwood on the final lap of the 800. Robertson out-leaned him at the line for the victory. “I could hear him breathing harder,” Yearwood said. “I passed him and I thought I had him.” The Wildcats compounded the damage by going 1-2-3 in the 1,600 and 1-2 in the 3,200. “Indoors, they spanked us,” said Kyle Friedman, who won both events. “We wanted to get a little payback. We wanted to go in really focused, knowing what we have to do to win and then going out and doing it.” Sean Smith (100) and Matt Shaughnessy (shot put) also won events for the Wildcats (9-0, 4-0), who clinched a tie for the division title. Erik Thunberg (400), Brian Kononchik (discus), Ben Latham (javelin), and Alex Elwood (pole vault) won events for the Falcons (5-1, 3-1). NFA coach Jemal Davis elected to put Bradley in three running events along with the long jump, and the Wildcats still swept the triple jump with Mike Russell, Roland Brown and Mike Elliott. Without Bradley in the high jump, Elliott and Brown still managed to pick up eight more points with a 1-2 finish. “Myles outshines everybody by so much, you don't realize how talented we are in the triple jump,” Davis said. “That's an event, in the last six or seven years, we've done very well in. “We're a very balanced team. It allows us to use Myles in non-traditional events for him.” And, oh yeah, almost forgot: NFA has Myles Bradley. All Bradley did was start off by winning the long jump and 100 hurdles. Then he took first in the 300 hurdles, an event he professes to hate, having only run it a couple times last year and once earlier this season. With the victory in hand, he slowed up after the final hurdle. And then turned right around and cruised to the win in the 200. “Wherever they need the points,” Bradley said, “that's what's most important today. I think I can tell where I'm supposed to be so I know how much I need to put into it.” That, in turn, opened up options for the rest of the team. Tuesday's win showed just how well those options can work out. “It allows us to coach,” Davis said. “To say we can put so and so in these events and know we can fare well. It's a confidence builder, absolutely.” NFA with Bradley and confidence?
