8 Ed Moran William & Mary 13:39.70

Pretty sure that's a sizable PR for him. Don't know how he can still represent W&M as I believe he graduated high school in '99. If he started immediately, that means he's in his 6th year. Thought the rule was 4 years of running over 5 years barring extenuating circumstances. Maybe it has to do with the stress fracture he had in XC of '03? Anyone have any info on this? Just curious.

he may have recived a "medical extension"

But also a great run by Ed and testament to kids that hard work pays off.

Ed was a real good HS'er but hardly a roll off your tongue Elite or All American prospect back then.

13:39 is real, real good...for reference he was right behind CU's Brent Vaughn, 4th at NCAA x-c. Also, Texas' Mark Nichol (Millburn) with 28:54 auto qualifier in the 10k...right ahead of U. of Portland (my alma mater) frosh John Moore 28:58.

I thought Vaughn might run faster..Schoolmeister also "only" at 14:01

Pifer..ehhh? 3:43.xx done that before

Strang did run well at 14;10 for a frosh..baille? 14:13 I think thats good for him

Batliner? 14;11 also good for him I think

Overall an average to good? weekend for Buffs I think

Not that 13:39 is shabby at all, but it was definitely within the realm of realistic expectation that Vaughn may run faster. He ran 13:38 at Washington indoors, but that track may have some similarities to the Armory where you just don't run much faster outdoors. I'm sure its not that he wasn't trying hard enough or anything. 13:39 is not a disaster by any means. Vaughn is still only in his 2nd year at CU, and has been much better than his first. Looking at the race, I wondered how fast the race would go up front with Abdi and Riley as the only realy heavy hitter post-college guys. Based on recent stuff I figured probably not as fast as 13:25 even, which mean that to run a CU record type of time Vaughn would need to win or be close to it. Still gaining experience. Schoolmeester perhaps could have been a bit tired or flat from the 10k effort still. The meet was solid, not spectacular for the Buffs. 8:43 steeple for Billy Nelson was a plus...he's not real tall, probably not much of a hurdler. I've said it before and I'll say it again...CU v. Wisco in Terre Haute in November will be one for the ages.

Oops...8:46.36...there is a "3" in there. Does he get a conversion for being short?

he is quite short and that is a good effort... i think the conversion for his lack of height should be like 5 seconds!!! looks like wetmore changing some things up for his runners... did nelson run in the 13:40's??? what year is he this year, 2nd year or 3rd year???

also moran, that was huge!!! he "only" ran 4:19 in HS once!!! he was overshadowed by todd henderson at Norte Dame and todd did nothing at lasalle... 13:39, wow!!! not sure if he was every capable of going that fast even after his two mid 13:50's efforts in 2003... too bad his 2003 xc season ended the way it did... after his pre-nat's perf that season, he had a shot at top 15 at nationals...

marc nichol... monster effort... 13:53 inside, 13:54 at oregon... i spoke with him and he said he "jogged" a 14:35 5k at texas relays to feel the pace for a 29:00 10k effort... 28:54 is a nice run!!! he could go faster in both events i am sure - the 10 is his best (longer the better for this kid). I am betting he stays in austin for awhile after finishing school in july instead of taking an accountant job in NYC this september!?!?!?

Moran is another one of those guys that just shows if you want it bad enough, and keep working you can run some great stuff..

AJD, this is Nelson's 3rd year, I believe Nelson's 5k PR is actually 13:58 from his frosh year, when he scored (7th) at the NCAA meet. He was injured during outdoors last year and redshirted x-c '04. In the fall of '03 he was 15th at NCAA X-C, a very good run...as I normally say that there are always about 25-30 guys good enough and fit enough to have legitimate shots at being top 10 or 15. Good example this year, Bobby Curtis, who won everything for 'Nova, and didn't run BAD in Terre Haute, was around 15th. Billy Nelson will be an integral part in their x-c success next year. They lose Jon Severy, who ran great as their 3rd, but he slots in their quite well.

Nichol could help form a good group in NYC, with Famiglieti already there, Lane reportedly moving there, Downin in North Jersey (28:37 at Stanford), etc.
