anna did look good leading from the start... had about a 50-100m lead for the whole race without losing any leg speed. 5:20'ish in the beginning of the season is not bad at all. dana troy and the girl from bristol central looked good as well for the first meet of the season.
girls 1600 should be a competitive race at the open... much more so than the boys race

There is no way, they are not posting them online and all the results are nameless, you had to know Heat and lane (sprints) or heat and place(distance). They could have done field, but they said at the coaches meeting that the results would not be posted. The best way is to ask someone from one of the teams what their results were.

Meghan Owen went sub 5 in 2002 when she ran 4:56.66. I think there is potential this season for a couple sub 5 girls at state open.

Mmmm I definitely agree. If not in indoor, then definitely in outdoor, but I'm pretty sure it should happen indoor.

She ran 5:13 at Yale on Saturday, then got back on the track for the 3000. I'm not sure how she did though, we left just as she led the pack around the track for the second lap. She didn't even look phased after her 5:13...just kind of walked off the track and ate a bagel.
Edit: the 5:13 was a full mile.

Yeah, it was a very impressive run. She didn't seem that tired from her early race. She was also able to respond to pressure made by Dana Troy in the mid section of the race. Very impressive run this early in the season, this is going to be an exciting Class S race!

2nd and 3rd in the boys mile were Matt Rigby and Jason Thrasher (?) of Suffield. Rigby is coming off an injury and the other kid is a senior who has never run before this season.
I think a guy from Hall went in the 22' range in the long jump.

katie looked really strong in the 1000... i know she could have run sub-3:00because she wasnt even that tired after the race. the only reason she didnt run faster was bc she was thinking too much about her splits and they were faster than she expected so she didnt feel the need to go faster haha. i think thats pretty freaking impressive :)

One of Ridgefield's defining characteristics last year was their improvement from indoor to outdoor. Frightening to think of what they'll do come spring if they stay true to form. Should be fun to watch and nice to see girls raising the bar for other Connecticut athletes as Ward and Koloseus did during cross.

I was talking to a coach last night who said that Anna was given a stress test by her doctors (not an anxiety stress test, but the physical one where you run on a treadmill at incresing paces and grades to measure the effects of the body) and they couldn't get her to sweat or her HR over 120 bpm.

Does anyone know why some of the ridgefield girls didnt run?
I was surprised to see that Katie Murdoch only ran in the 4x800 after hearing about her 3:01 1000m at the armory a couple weeks back. And even if she did want to run on their prestigious 4x800 team and opt to scratch the 1000m because of the closeness of the races, then maybe she should have entered in the 1600 or the 600? I know she comes on these boards sometimes so I was just wondering why she didnt run anything else and especially not the 1000m because I'm pretty sure she would have had the fastest time of the season going into it.
And I was also surprised to see that Elly Teitsworth did not run on EITHER their 4X800 (unless the list of girls that actually ran was incorrect) or the 1000m, as I'm sure she could have easily placed in the 1000m or any of the other mid-distance events.
Another thing I wanted to point out was the impressive performances by Greenwich freshman Margaret McKeever. She was seeded at 5:39 in the 1600m and ended up running 5:19. Now, I know that the 1600m is completely STACKED this year but a 5:19 is still no walk in the park. And then she came back in the 3200 to drop another 20 or so seconds off her seed time to run an 11:41.
ALSO i would just like to personally congratulate Shelby Donahue for winning the Class S 600m in a class record and for qualifying for nationals in her first indoor season and only about her 3rd 600m race ever! All you 600m runners better watch out for her next weekend!
Oh yea, and if anyone hears anything else about the above comment about Anna Shields, that would be pretty interesting to look into.

02-12-2006, 12:19 PM
hey this is katie murdoch...i actually didnt run on the 4x8 yesturday either. the team was leah, elly, heather, and emily heaslip. im not sure why the names were wrong? i didnt run anything bc i have bronchitis and it was really hard for me to breathe when i tried warming up so even though it was really hard to decide and reaaaally disappointing i decided it would be smarter not to run. so kind of upsetting bc i was really excited about doing the 1000 since ive only gotten to run it twice this season, but at least i still can do the 4x8 this weekend.
Elly ran on the 4x8 and then scratched from the 1000 because she had a pretty bad stomach ache and didnt feel well enough to do another event.

Oh man...what a shame...you guys seem to get sick at all the wrong times...XC Class Championships for one...but hear ya about not being able to run when you're sick - last year i had bronchitis at state open and ended up coming in last in the 1000 - haha not my best race...anyways good luck next week and in the following weeks! Can't wait to watch you guys and glastonbury go at it in the 4x8.

If it was a true medical stress test this is not that surprising. They are meant to peak out at the stroke volume that would show a heart abnormality in a sedentary person. This would cause few endurance athletes to sweat or crest 120. If it was an athletic stress test, like a VO2 lab test, I don't buy it.
