I don't like em, dont think anyone truly "enjoys" them. However, they can greatly benefit some runners that require high mileage to get better (me).

I'm like that too. How often is too much for two a days. 5 Days a week?

I despise twice-a-day practices with a fiery passion. They suck, because usually the harder workout is in the morning, and I would rather snip my achilles tendon with a pair of rusty garden shears than bust my ass before 8am.

I'm in college, and will be starting doubles this summer in my attempt to get up to 80 (maybe 90) mile weeks, because my team has six recruits coming in who could lap me in a 5,000m race right now.

Nothing is too much, as long as you can handle it and benefit from it.

During the school year, I've done them a couple times a week, like 2 or 3. The morning runs suck at first. This summer, as I'll be starting work at 6am, and ending at 3pm, I'm going to be running before dinner, after a quick nap (so like 4:30ish) and then later again at night, like 9:30pm. Then, straight to bed. I'm at 60mpw in singles right now, hope to get up to 90 by the end of June, and we'll see after that.

I like doing a good tempo run in the morning, but only in the first half of the season.

Two a days aren't that hard, you just need passion and dedication to the freakin sport of running. Suck it up and tell yourself that it will pay off later, which it always does. Plus I love running and if my body could handle it I would run all day.

They're usually done later in the summer base period like in August to early September when mileage is increased. Besides that, I just prefer sticking to one a days unless my mileage is super high at the time. Just make sure one run is at least 40 minutes and nothing lower than 20 minutes for the other or else its really useless. I personally like to do my shorter run in the morning because I'm running on an empty stomach, and a longer run in the PM.

My high school team would do two-a-days every Wednesday in the summer. The morning run would be an easy 5 or so, and the afternoon run(like 5 pm...ish) would be either a hill repeat session or a hard 5 mile hill run. This got in some good extra mileage...but didn't wear out the legs. And I think there is such thing as too many miles. Where do you think all the burn-out stories come from?

Yeah, during base doubles I do a tempo, (4-6 miles) in the morning, then do 8-10 miles later. Usually I go about 9am/4pm.

I actually really like doubling, (I only do it maybe once or twice per week). When the finish the first run, you already feel like you accomplished something for the day, so when you go out later, it's like just a nice, enjoyable run.

What time does school start for everyone doing two practices a day? I would run a few times in the morning at 6:00 but it started to drive me nuts.

Also, can anyone from Texas clarify to me how their sport classes work?

i love morning runs because they are so easy. mornings are my recovery time because it's harder to run fast early in the AM (i run at 7 AM, kind of early for a college kid). it's very refreshing to me and i've done them for so long now (4 years) that my days are actually off-kilter when i go on breaks and don't run in the morning. also, my workouts in the afternoons tend to go worse if i don't get a morning run in, they help wake me up. i go about 6 miles running 6:45-7:00/mile and it feels great. except when i get just a few hours of sleep for whatever reason, but i rarely miss my morning runs.
