Who is the best?

Please keep in mind only 10 poll options are given.

Whoa! Dang man no offense to sprinters but lets focus only on distance because if you add one sprinter you end up having to add tons more. There are tons of sprinters you missed. In order to add all of them you'd have too many options. Please just focus on 800-marathon, please delete the thread and repost. Here are some options...

Wilson Kipketer
Sebastian Coe
Hicham El Guerrouj
Bernard Lagat
Noah Ngeny
Nourredine Morceli
Daniel Komen
Haile Gebrselassie
Kenenisa Bekele
Paul Tergat
Khallid Khannouchi

past runners...
Emil Zatopek
Said Aouita
Lasse Viren
Miruts Yifter

Dang! Add all those people I forgot, I can't think right now but there are a few more! Also please don't add Steve Prefontaine, I know he's great but he'd throw the poll off because he's a top USA runner but not as ultimate in world stage and too many people would end up voting for him for some reason. :-)

First, I wouldn't delete a thread based on one's person's views.

Second, you can't leave out sprinters (ESPECIALLY Johnson) when talking about the greatest runner ever. Don't be biased.

Third, I've included most of the runners you listed.

Fourth, I did NOT include Prefontaine or any other American runner for the reason you gave and because none are considered the best of all time.

Fifth, Poll Threads cannot be deleted.

Hi, I'm sorry you are upset.

Please consider a revision. Why not have multiple threads? One for sprinters and one for distance? You can get better results. Because we'd get to see just how some people will rank better with a distance runner only poll and a sprinters only poll. I know Michael Johnson is a great runner but my point is why not make a distance runner poll instead? I know you didn't include Prefontaine I'm talking about the future poll. Maybe Steveu can help out? :) :p

No offense dragonsoul...but KK can't even be on that list. sure he held the WR in the Marathon and even broke his own record...but in the same Era Tergat destroyed his WR....and Tergat also holds hte half marathon record and has silver medals to his name and 5? Xc championships.....How can KK even be on the same list as Tergat who doesn't compare to Geb.

I agree and I think Michael Johnson is the sprinter that really established this fact. I voted Geb. but Johnson would be a close second out of those options.

If you're so interested in a poll just for distance runners, why don't you make one yourself instead of bashing somebody else?

Hi, I'm sorry your upset. I am not trying to bash I was just trying to see what would happen in a distance runner only poll and a sprinters only poll. This is not a complicated thing.

I don't believe Khallid Khannouchi would be my pick for a top distance runners list.

I'm just wondering if there would be a sprinter poll and a distance runner poll. That way we can choose more people, and get a better idea. Don't take it the wrong way.

Since it's not complicated, why don't you do it? Or are you one of those buttholes who likes to ask everyone else's opinion without stating their own so that you can tell others how wrong they are?

You're so big on the separate polls, then either put them up or stop expecting someone else to do your work for you.

I didn't even vote because Carl Lewis isn't on the poll. I voted for him on the other one though.

Oh, and I almost threw up in my mouth when I saw Tim Montgomery on your poll. If you're going for comedy, you scored BIG TIME!

He ran 44.9 (hand time) to become the 1st to break 45 (which won the 1960 Olympics). Hand times were accepted for WRs at the time.

The fact that Sebastian Coe is not on the list makes the poll worthless/laughable.

Carl Lewis was one of the best all-around athletes of all time - any alive World Records? He did set the World Record in the 100m.

Tim Montgomery has surpassed his record time.

Yes, because he is by far so much better than all of the listed 10 runners.

you are being way too defensive about a poll that is very poorly done. With 10 options, there is no way you can include both sprinters and distance runners and expect to have a good sampling of the appropriate talent. This poll was doomed to receive complaints since the moment you conceived it, so you should be willing to realize there are much better options than the way you set it up.
