Do you gamble?(lottery, casino, online)

Most on here know you have to work to be successful at running. Do you feel gambling is right or wrong.

I would say it is not necessarily wrong unless taken to extreme where it is detrimental.

also, when I see people who seem to have nothing in the convenience store every day buying lottery tickets. I am only in favor of getting rid of lotteries for this reason.

I've only gone a couple times. As long as you can keep control, I don't see a problem with it.

You don't go with a mindset of winning anything, you go with a mindset of having fun.

There's nothing wrong with a little gambling so long as it's being done with your own disposable income.

P.S. You should've had a choice to represent the class of gamblers that gamble more than "once or a few times" but less than "often". I had to vote "often" but I'm by no means a habitual gambler.

It's a fun way to empty out the change cup.

I'll usually stick five bucks in the powerball, but keep myself from doing it all of the time by requiring a 50 mil jackpot min. before I'll get in. Who wants to hit a measly 10 mil anyway, chump change! :D

Casinos have never attracted me, and not counting blowing 40 bucks in quarters on a recent cruise in their on-board casino, I haven't been in one in years.

I don't know that it's as wrong to gamble as it is foolish, knowing all of the games are designed with one winner in mind- the house. On the other hand, it is wrong for government to offer gambling as a way to raise revenue- the games of whatever variety are compulsive in nature and do tend to draw those of little means into more deep financial arrearages. That's a pretty poor way to tax, and compared to most other gaming opportunities the odds are horribly long and the prize payback ratio miserable low. The worst game in town, so to speak.

The one game I will get into in a bigger way once in a while is the pulltabs that are available in the local pubs- if out for dinner and drinks I notice alot of traffic at the window, that generally implies a good box- often one that is holding more money than it would take to clean the thing out completely- a game that is holding more payout than ticket cost. That's no guarantee that I'm going to come out ahead, though, some other lucky devil may end up hitting them all. The one nice thing about these is that the box is finite in number of tickets, and can simply be bought out completely (depending on the charitable organization's selling rules posted) to recover if you get in deep- but only if you are carrying the cash to do that. Credit cards/checkbooks get you nowhere at the window.

i've gambled a few times, nothing big. just like march madness stuff and some card games.

as kalaby said, if you have some disposable income, why not try making some money?

In Missouri, at least, the lottery was approved way back when, because it was advertised as adding money to education. The state would take the revenue to supplement educational funding. Perhaps they do, but use the money that was going to education for other areas. Hence the recent unavailability of funds stated by our former governor(who didn't even win his primary) for education. What made me read this article is that we have tour buses loaded with senior citizens going through our town on the was to casinos in Tunica, MS.

So, here's the big question....

Do NCAA pools count as gambling? No, not the Neuheisel(SP WHATEVER) huge pools, but the 5$ ones that we play for fun.... I consider those gambling, but it's the only ones I do every year...

Heck, I won 65$ this year from one. It all goes under what I could call...Moderation is good, excess is bad. It all depends on what you know you can handle.

According to the NCAA, they do.

I voted without reading the first post. I gamble (play poker) frequently with my friends. Nothing huge, just like 3-10 dollar buy in games.

All for fun.

i do gamble sometimes with friends. I love playing texas holdem.... usually me and like 4 other friends play and every one puts in a dollar, and the winner takes the pot. One of my friend has a really nice chip set. It's fun, and all you have to do is win one pot, and you're good for a while. I gamble, but i don't do serious gambling.

The problem is it's usually those who can least afford it who get hooked.
There's been a huge controversy here in Maryland because the Republican governor wants to balance the state's budget by bringing in video slot machines. But they would be placed (at least by the first proposals) mainly at racetracks and in areas where poorer blacks live.
None of them will go into the governor's backyard; none in affluent white suburbs.
Doesn't seem quite right.

The rich folks don't need luck to get their money, they just work. It's as simple as that.

I like taking my friends money so I play poker occasionally, but only with small dollar amounts.
