Svc 800?

There seems to be some minor interest in having a SVC 800 this spring in conjuction with the State track meet.

And why wouldn't there be?

The SVC 800 is a standard 800m race augmented with the consumption of three Sweet Valley Colas:

- the first at the gun (must be consumed before beginning the run)
- the second at the 400m mark (must be consumed before continuing)
- the third and final SVC after crossing the finish line.

The clock begins at "the gun" and does not stop until the final SVC is consumed.

The First Annual SVC Mile was held after the State cc meet in 2004 (using the first mile of The Ridges course). The medalists:

1 - mjtran (6:56WR)
2 - merkelmachine (~7:20?)
3 - "BUKface"
4 - g0uads
5 - "Wheels"
6 - "Evil Johnson" (aka "James Westphal")

There's no doubt that the SVC Racing Series is the most exciting thing to happen to competitive running. The only question for the inaugural SVC 800 is, when and where!?!

Veteran's Stadium is guarded like The White House on Friday and Saturday of the State Meet. There's zero chance of running it on that track.

That leaves two options: (A) running it off-track or (B) finding another track in towne.

Option A would suck because running it on the roads or anywhere else just wouldn't be as cool. Option B would be OK, but I'm unaware of any other track in LAX.

It could be possible to measure out a grass loop on that huge field adjacent the track, though! I'm liking this idea. Even a 200m loop would suffice in that grass field!

Oh, man...a SVC 800 would be so intense! It may have been six months ago but I still remember the pain!

When I was at EC North we had a CC meet in that park across from the track (the one with all the emus). I'm sure there's an 800m loop in there we could use. I'm not going to talk trash about being a threat, because if my weak Del Re performance in any indicator, I'll probably get last place.

Honestly, I think that field behind the track will be a perfect location. It's flat, pretty firm, and very easy to find.

I think it'll have to be a 200m loop, though. Not sure if a 400 oval could fit in there.

All we'll need then is CACH Tap's measuring wheel, some specs ("of the rotary girders on the endline...I'm an idiot"), some cones...and of course, several cases of SVC!

I believe at the SVC mile I was the last out of the gates. This will change this year. There is no holding back. We should be allowed to puke!

I didnt feel like starting a new thread for this and i figure most of the people interested in the SVC 800 are not competeing during the meet... Anyways if there are people that are planning on going down or wanted to and cant find a hotel room i was thinking it would be pretty fun if a bunch of people got together and camped somewhere close by. Like we discussed on the "key strategy session" on the 4x8 warmup yesterday, it's not about the leg speed, it's about how fast you can drink, and far more importantly, how able one is to run with your stomach bloated with SVC!

If I were you, I'd start up with some heavy SVC training immediately. For example, me, merkelmachine, shooter, and g0uads "practiced" by eating hot dogs on the "victory Stokke" last night after the meet was over.

I'm sure MOJ' wouldn't mind if you showed up on Friday with a sixer of SVC and bombed 2-3 cans (= "over-distance") before doing your workout! :D

Alright, from what I know it is going to be in the field next to the track after the last event on Saturday. We should get a sign-up list so we know how much SVC to buy. TRAN knows all the details, and since he Dyestats instead of working I'm pretty sure he can explain the fine print. I think a two dollar entry fee would be appropriate to cover the cost of the SVC.

I actually decided against running my gut-filled 400m. I figure I didn't want to know what it would feel like because that might discourage me from participating. We'll find out how it feels on Saturday night. Don't expect too much from me. I'm guessing my performance will top my absolutely pathetic Del Re showing though. I just hope I beat Carie. I'm not sure I'll ever live it down if she beats me.
