This year is in full swing and it seems like everyone is pr'ing like crazy so i think that i neeed to hear where everyone is at with what there goals were and where they are............ for me im having such an off season but im happy with what im doign overall well i started out with a goal of 40 feet for triple and now im only 2 feet and 10 inches a way so it sucks but im focusing on my team soo much right now and running also so by the end of this entire track year im hoping for 40 which sounds resonable if i start working out properly and for long im doign it friday at the league championships soo im hoping for 18 which sounds pretty good

Thats a good question... I want to but I have to talk with my coach to see if I can get some funding. Hopefully yes though because I really want to.

For triple jump I'm at 48'4" which is almost the same as my PR from last year and it's still somewhat early in the season. My goal by the end of indoor is to go 50'10". As for Long Jump I have PR'd with a jump of 22'3" but when I jumped a 22'1/2" I was nearly a foot behind the board so I feel capable of going 23 so my goal is 23'10" for indoor. Also I did high jump for the first time this year and jumped 6'1" (I practiced for about 20 minutes). My goal for high jump is like 6'3" or 6'4". If I reach those goals in indoor I wanna set my standards way higher for outdoor. :)

i kinda laughed when you said mid season because we haven't started preseason yet. our coaches are starting preseason running in a week or two and it is only two days a week, about an hour each day. i don't get to start jumping til the second week of feb.:( i was actually jumping a week ago and my coach caught me and yelled at me. he really knows what he is talking about so i am not one to argue, but i'm so jelous of all you guys that already have pr's under your belt this year.

it's called other sports. imo there is not enough time in a year...only three sports seasons. i play three different sports year round, but wish i could play like 6 throughout the year. i would do indoor if we had it but don't you think track practice is boring at the end of outdoor? indoor+outdoor=too long w/o a break.

HJfrick
01-20-2006, 07:37 PM
I guess I would end up playing something else in the winter if I couldn't run track. I like indoor and outdoor being one long season. I like going from the end of November until July.

hmm well my goal for the high jump is 7 feet. Last year i went 6'8" and my first meet last week i went 6'6" it was a good start to the year and its my jr year which makes me happy cause im half way done with hs.

Yeterday, I jumped 42'5.5" and 19'11.5" on a very hard rubber/concrete floor. By the end of this winter, I'd like to be hitting 44' and 21', once i get on a good surface in a month or so

prior to this indoor season, I long jumped 21 feet as a junior. Im now midway thru my senior indoor season and although my speed has improved and my vertical has increased, im long jumping terribly. In the off season i lifted a decent amount, but always made sure it was explosive. I've seen the results in the increase in my vertical, but i just don't understand why im jumping so bad. My season best is currently 19 feet, and people's expectation (mine included) was for me to be jumping atleast 22. So im really stumped as to what is making me jump so poorly. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

HJfrick

Because of your increase in speed and strength, you might be throwing your approach technique off, which would cause you to lose distance. The best way to tell is if you have video tape from both seasons, you should be able to see differences, most likely right before take off. Good Luck.

A lot of it can be, and is, mental also. Don't think about it too much; since you've done 21' before, you are still obviously capable of doing it again, and better. Being relaxed while jumping is almost as important as anything else. I konw for me, last year when I was jumping low 19's, that if i came in tense, i could easily leave a meet not even hitting 18'... just keep training hard, and realize it will come... good luck!

lets see here, indoor season pr in lj is 19-1 i havent triple jumped yet because its so weird, but im doing it this upcoming meet hoping for somewhere around 40 feet (which aint so bad as a freshman) over the summer i was consistantly jumping in the mid-high 20 feet(20-9) but i seem to have lost it. Hopefully if i can get that back i might be able to win states. I slacked off allot, kinda came back and bit me, but im not worried about it.

NVJumper13

so tom, you say if you can get back your high 20 foot jumps you have a shot to "win states." where do you live? i am in a very noncompetetive state and i couldn't make it to state with a 21'4" last year.

you may not have "lost it"
I mean indoor is not over and I'm going to assume that you had a hard off-season. Wait until you see what you can do when you start to taper off your workouts to say that "you've lost it".

NVJumper,; I'm assuming by "getting it back" he meant also improving ;)

your right, i overstated. I live in maine(oh shut up) If i got 20-6 in states i could get 2nd or 3rd. Its pretty lame competition here, but everynow and then we get some crazy kids. Last year we had a freshman who ran 4:09 in the 1600 outdoors.

yeah we have a meet a week, usually just run at the local college facility. and so far the farthest lj this season in maine is 21 6.5.

The deal in maine is, the competition usually isnt top notch, but everynow and then we get amazing athletes. For Last year a sophomore ran 6.58 in the 55.

If you guys didn't hear yet Reggie Haslom hit 49-3.5 and Erik Quick hit 48-10 in the triple. Quick's jump was at the Silver State Open but I don't know where Reggie did his. Nice marks though. The real question though is who will be the first to hit 50 this indoor season because its been a few years now since anyone has gone 50.

im at 24 right now and i live in Cali..so indoors is once a blue moon, unless i go to Reno or Northern Arizona,so im feeling pretty good, weight training and other things have really helped this year...possibly at Simplot i can hit 24'6 since the altitude helps a little

GJones
01-29-2006, 07:35 PM

GJones
01-29-2006, 08:13 PM
I'm signed up for both because the original plan was to triple at both but I might stay at NIN and do long and triple. Especially because NIN has better comp but the surface at the Armory is nice. I PR'ed at Armory last year with 48-4.5 after running two 200's (4x200 prelims and finals). To be honest though, what I'm looking forward to the most is Simplot that should be real fun.

Idk yet im looking at USC, Stanford, Cal, Texas A+M, Texas, Baylor, Florida, Oregon, UNC, and Cornell! But in other news I just got in a car accident and my car is totalled and my knees are hurting, so I might be taking some time off from jumping. I'm going to the sports medicine doctor to look at my knees and my messed up heel (not accident related) tomorrow, so I will keep you updated.

Not that the opinion of someone you dont even know matters, but I'd advise giving Stanford a very close look. You'd get a top notch education from one of the best colleges in the country. They have a great facility that has hosted the US Outdoor Championships, and the weather's pretty nice too. good luck with whatever school you choose though.

Wow, can't go wrong with any of those. I was considering transferring to UNC next year, but I love Tulane too much and there's no way I can leave (even though we did fire our jumps coach :()

Good luck on your college search.

EDIT: As for Stanford, another one of the elite jumpers on this board (MulesBega) is there right now jumping for them. He jumped 24'2.5" in high school and lurks around every now and then. I guess if you want more info for Stanford you could try to contact him through PM.

i am in the same boat. last year in Nevada the winner was only in the mid 44's. this year will be different though. i am guessing it will take a mid 46-47' jump to win this year. that's still peanuts compared to some of these crazy states like cali. congrats to Gary for those nice early season jumps. good luck to both of you.

Alright, I am new to this board, as I might have said before, but anyways, I have been doing track since last indoor season (junior year), and I was primarily a high jumper. I jumped 5'10" my first meet with sneakers and I kicked the bar off twice at 6'00", and then I did it again the next week, and then I managed 6'00" a couple of months later. But, since then, I haven't improved. Last outdoor season was pretty injury plagued, I had a few good meets, but that is about it. This indoor season I only tied my PR though, and I feel like I am preparing well for outdoors. What kind of tips can you give me to improve on that 6'00"? Also, I have a 19hi PR in the LJ and a 41mid pr in the TJ on one jump (FOUL FOUL jump), both at a decathlon. What are your tips, all of you seem like amazing jumpers that I want to be this outdoor season, as I will be primarily HJ and TJ.

Crfan07
03-06-2006, 11:17 PM
umm are u a sr... cause if u arent then i would say this summer really hit the weights.. the more u lift before the season the faster and more powerful your jumps will be. But my tip would be to try to increase speed, as much speed as your strenght will allow. The faster you go the faster your rotation in the air, and the faster you rotate the higher u can techniqually go. But if your kicking everything off with your heels u should do bar drills where u stand just in front of the bar and jump backwards over it simulating your kick.

i donno just a few suggestions

That's not good. Imagine those people who have like National Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior Class Records. Those are amazing. Especially some one like Kenny Hall. I don't think he did track for nearly as long as I have and he went 54-10.25 and 56-2 with wind at his back and he was a Junior...now thats crazy

yea but you have to understand that im from maine. Where we have never seen someone that good before. We have never even seen someone as good as you before. Our state record is 45-11, so looking at a kid like you is a whole different level of track and field for me.

Which means i have to practice it now sigh but o well.. But this is probably going to make my high jumpingness get worst but not to much hopefully

lol well to get out of my region atleast u need a 46 something.. we have 2 46 footers in our region but that will probably get u like 5th or so at our state meet, last year sellers went 49 and got second, but that was on his first jump and he hurt himself on his second one so u never no what he would have gone..
but ya i think over all track is very competitive down here in texas though here is our current like 1-10
49-6, Malcolm Williams, South Grand Prairie
47-9¾, Omar Craddock, Killeen
47-5, LaGerald Betters, Waco
47-4½, Thomas Lang, Brazos
47-3½, Mo Jackson, Converse Judson
47-3, Andrew Gumbs, Killeen
47-0½, Simon, Irving Nimitz
46-11. Hammonds, Keller Central
46-5½, Banks, Lamar Consolidated
46-3, Wilson, Atlanta
46-3, Kendall Conner, Houston Forest Brook

Jeez, even in Massachusetts, qualifying for the class meet is 40'. Then you need to get top 5 to go to All-States. MA isn't even that strong in the jumps (I think it was like 48'6"ish the past two years for the win - 44' would've probably been 5th or 6th each year) but 38 wouldn't even place in dual meets in my high school league.

Crfan07

yeah 39-40 in triple and 20 in long will get you to finals at all the big meets here. to get to state, it'll probebly be around 43' and 21'6" depending how everyone jumps. winning state will only need a 46' and 22'something i bet.

Around where I am... usually 18' and 37' are good to place at a duel meet almost every time (of course there are exceptions). For normal sectional invites, high 19' and 41' get you to finals all the time. For the larger invites in my area, 20' and 42' basically guarentee that you're in the finals. For states in my section, you need mid 21's or high 43's to have a solid chance to qualify.

Some dual meets you need 18 to place, some you need 16, depends on competition. I jumped 19'8" and 40' Tuesday and won LJ and TJ.

unfortunately I have not been on the PR train this outdoor season yet. I was going great indoors.. in my last meet i triple jumped 46' 10" which was a 7 inch pr from spring, but then I hurt my heel and haven't jumped since. Friday I'll be making my (hopefully) triumphant return. I've been PRing in hurldes though :D

Jumped 21'8" my first meet of the outdoor season but haven't had another jump over TWENTY since (two meets). Haven't had a legit triple jump in this year (fouled all three jumps in my only attempt at triple).

Long and triple jumping at LSU this weekend, HOPEFULLY getting over 22' and just getting into the pit in the triple (44 foot board, I hear. . .my PR is not close to 44 feet. . .)

What? No female jumpers?

Sadly, Im not the greatest jumper in the world (read: I have NO boosts and NO technique), but my PR for this season is a 14'6'....which is STILL not where I was late year. :( blah...I have 7 more meets left.

this is what i have done so far eight months after snapping my leg in half and having a metal rod put in it.

first meet of the year had three jumps in the high 20' range
best marked jump is 19'6"

attempting triple at conn college this weekend...last phase is on the broken leg so it probably isnt safe

This past weekend I jumped a PR in Triple with 50-7 (+0.8) and Long jumped 22-8.50 (0.0). I also ran my fastes 200 time of 22.50 but I cramped up the last 100 so I'm shooting for a 21.80.

I know kids that jump 18' and compete for collegiate teams... and if you're going to say "how the hell are you competing".. you mean to be mean (at least to a certain extent)

Nah, I completely understand what he's saying; I shouldn't be happy about a 21'10" jump or whatever, but it's still a PR regardless. Conference meet should be interesting, going into the triple jump unseeded, but if I pull off what I'm doing in training it's going to be a nice suprise to the rest of C-USA.

StealthEDIT: There's two guys in the league, LJ PR's of 19'4" and 20'3" respectively that have already jumped 47'2" and 47'9" this season. A crappy LJ PR means nothing for triple.
