They FEEL they have to? Or they just DO have to?

Not many people can live off running between the ages of 25 and 30, unless they are good enough BEFORE then to get contracts.

Psh, have you ever heard of something called parents? I am thinking about after I graduate from college just living off of my mom while i train to make the olympic trials in 2012.

It is not impossible to have a full time job and qualify for the Olympic Trials.
Many distance runners have done it. The key is to have a job/career that will make training 100 miles a week possible, and family/spouse that will support the effort.

Of course it's possible; it's just that he said people "feel like they have to get a job," as if most people have the choice of not getting one.
