I didn't think Rupp would get the record. He is truely one of the best ever now.

i didn't realize that ritz won by 8 seconds. to me, that makes his 13:22 more impressive. if this were a case of losing to multiple faster guys, or even having torres right with him the whole way pushing him, it would be less impressive. but i believe now that he will run 13:15 this year if he goes at the right time in a European race or setup American race, like pre.

rupp's victory by 39 seconds is very impressive. i don't know how long his pacers lasted, if he had them, but this shows that he doesn't need to draft the whole way to run an american junior record. and the guy physically looks like he's 15 still. it would be hard to say that he doesn't still have a big upside at 5k and 10k.

Rupp is great and if he runs a 10K in better field he will or can go 27:50's as a just turning 19 year old frosh which is just fantastic!!

i just felt a cold draft of hell beginning to chill king, as you projected a fairly big drop in a runners time based on the circumstances of the race. and I agree!!

Its interesting to note that Ritz ran the last 200 in 35 seconds. I think in a race with someone to run with and share the pace, he wouldnt have died so badly, and should be good for a few seconds faster. I think 13:12-15 this summer as he will probably focus only on the 10k and train through any 5ks.

35 seconds?? Is that factual? Maybe he let up at the end? i can't imagine him actually closing in 35..

its probably true. i didnt clock his last lap, but he was working on his own afer he dropped jorge, and he was working HARD. his last lap was slow, and i would guess around a 67. His last 200 was like he was running through shallow water, or molasses or something. Still impressive however.

Someone had all his splits on letsrun, and it was something like a 34.7. He must have totally died, and I read that he was totally spent and collapsed on the track afterwards. He did have some very fast middle of the race laps, and at one point was running low 13 pace for a mile or so. Pretty impressive effort, give he was alone and its only early may.

there were some good pics up from the race, but they seem to be off-line now. anyhow, ritz got passed in the last 200 by a d3 runner who was on his 2nd to last lap. if that doesn't indicate serious fatigue, i don't know what would.

either way it was a PR and a good race for early may...
