Northwestern(Miami) wins third state championship after three consecutive runner-ups. Defending champs and ‘rebuilding,’ Oak Ridge(Orlando) finishes just 10 points back on the shoulders of several two seniors, three juniors, two sophomores and three freshman. NW 81.50 OR 71.50
Oak Ridge(Orlando) Sr, Barbara Pierre blazes to a 11.81(+1.0) US #6
Deerfield Beach So, Brittany Jones, scorches 24.04(NWI), US #8 all conditions, to win 200m as top five go under 25.0. Jones runs US #3 53.48 in 400m prelims then comes back in finals and runs US #5, 53.76!
Palm Beach Lakes Sr, Kettiany Clarke edges Northwestern(Miami) Sr, Pavi’Elle James in photo finish. Both timed in 13.82(+0.0) US #2. James had streak of three straight titles broken. Clarke also finished 2nd in LJ, 19-09.00 US #7 all conditions, and 2nd in the 300m H, 43.10.
Northwestern(Miami) SO, Lizzie Harris, wins HJ, 5-08, and wins 300m H in 42.94 US #8
Coral Springs Sr and US #2, Viktoria Andonova did not compete in HJ or TJ due to knee injury
Colonial(Orlando) Sr, Zarinah Suluki, squeaks out 0.5” victory over Palm Beach Lakes Sr, Kettiany Clarke, 19-09.50(+2.1) to 19-09.00(+2.2). US #6 and #7 all conditions. 2nd straight title for Suluki.
Northwestern’s Pavi’Elle James, 19-00.75(NWI), Miami Beach Sr, Katinah Clermont, 19-00.00(+3.0) also over 19-00 barrier.
Suluki wins TJ too with 39-10(+1.3) effort.
Northwestern(Miami), behind Oak Ridge on final exchange, wins 4 x 100m in US # 9, 46.89, as Oak Ridge falls.
Oak Ridge cruises to a 3:49.58 win in the 4 x 400m on the strength of two freshman and two sophomores
Oak Ridge wins 4 x 800m in 9:26.03 with 2:13.8 anchor by frosh Jamia Hutto. New 4 x 800m state leader. 1st state 4 x 8 title in school history for the Pioneers. Hutto also finished second in the 1600m, 5:00.61 and won 800m in 2:16.76 coming from way behind.
Oviedo Sr, Jenny Barringer claims second straight 1600m/3200m double in 4:54.29 and 10:36.94 bringing her total number of state championships in track and field to five.
Cypress Bay frosh, Emilie Amaro, in her first year of running, completes impressive, 5:01.46/10:49.59 double. Barringer, Amaro and UF signee, Jack Kruzel of Cooper City, 10:50.22, all go under 11:00 in the same race for the first time in Florida state meet track history.
Miami Southridge Frosh Zakeya Stinson wins SP with 41-00.50 toss

Evans(Orlando) wins its first state championship in school history with a 45-40 victory over Norland(Miami). It is the second consecutive team championship by a team outside the Dade, and Broward county area. Prior to that, those two counties had won nine straight titles with Dade county teams claiming six titles and Broward claiming three. Northwestern(Miami) anchor, Chauncey Tompkins, down 4 seconds with 200m to go scorches 26s last 200m to win 4 x 800m in state best time of 7:47.66. Colonial(Orlando) takes close second in 7:47.87. US #5 and #6
