dont stop! just take your training down to easy runs 3-5 times a week for a fwe weeks to let your body recover from the season before you start training hard again.
Our coach usually suggests like a week off, and then start building the base up.

our coach has always just said to take a week of reduced milage every 4 or so weeks in order to give your body rest during your base training period, otherwise unless you really want to don't take time off at all.

Summer track is a bad idea, you need to build base miles. Take 2 weeks off, or less if you feel like running again.

I personally do both to keep from loosing speed before XC season, also doing the speed work helps get your legs ready for lactic tolorance which you need a lot of in XC. But I agree, there is no replacement for a good base, only supplements to it that might make you a bit more effective of a runner.

Summer track is pretty much just like base training we do 50 min. runs like everyday, a lil dual 2 mile on wednesdays, on saturdays a track workout. so yeah, i dont wanna get burned out, so im just gonna take 2 weeks off wit just one slow 30 min. on this sunday coming up.

uh...summer track is not a good idea. You train for xc, not for meaningless summer track crap little duals against ur fellow teammates.
in response to taking time off, lydiard says you should never take time off, just do little short runs, like 20 min each day, no intensity, just easy. But sometimes i just get mentally refreshed from taking atleast 1-2 weeks off. Kinda like starting a whole new chapter. But if u are gonna take 1-2 weeks off, dont be lazy, play some ultimate frisbee, bike, or like basketball.

how did you make it to state with those times (even with your pr's) i dont know about louisiana but here in illinois, qualifying for 2 mile is 9:40ish and the mile is 4:24, not to mention thats just qualifying, but not even competitive times...

Are you serious about the lactic acid tolerance bit and needing a lot of that for xc?

We have the fastest 800 runner in the nation, alot of good relay teams, not too much good as in distance only about the max. of 10 ppl can break 10 in louisiana!!! yeah i know pethetic....... but i mean not too many ppl break 4:30 in the mile either maybe like 10-15 in the state. so yeah, but we got some fast ppl, trey harts, trinton holliday, barbe high school, st. augustine high( where the 800 meter runner goes), so i mean, where not quick, but not too too slow lol. Please quit bashing me about my times.....

I don't think he was intending to bash about times, that made me a little curious, too.

I think the answer to his question was pretty obvious.

I would suggest NOT doing any track work over the summer. Stick with 5-6 LSD with one tempo a week towards the end of the summer.
