Just curious, I know that increasing your mileage helps, and sometimes ive heard it helps alot, but how much? The most i've ever ran in a week is a little under 30 miles, and this summer i'm planning some 55 mile weeks. How much of an improvement did you guys make?

I went from 0mpw to 40mpw and ran my first 5K in 18:10. I've stayed at 40mpw-50mpw since then and in a year dropped 1:15 on a 5k.

As for the 800, I went from 0mpw - 40mpw and in a year dropped 12 seconds from my 800PR from 2:15 freshman year to 2:03 sophomore year. Kept the mileage the same and have dropped another 2 seconds to 2:01 so far, hoping to go 1:58.

Also went from 5:10-4:35 in the 1600m over the course of two years at 40-50mpw.

Went from 30ish sophomore year (19:14 5k) to 75-80 the summer before junior year and managed low 17s even though somehow i underacheived

Also, you'll get a lot more tougher mentally as well

I went from like a 7 minute mile at the start of 7th grade to now running like 10 miles at a faster pace than that. I am a freshman and have gotten in the 40-50 range. I plan on running even more this summer.

Maybe you made too big of a jump too quickly? 30 to 75...that's over double...that's a huge jump.

It all depends how you approach it. With a good progression and lots of rest (as in sleep) you can do it. Doubles help a lot when increasing mileage as they put less strain on your legs at one time.

I was doing maybe 50's last track season without much of a winter... ran 10:22, 4:55 (and i think like a 2:13, not sure)

This year I put in a winter (interupted by a few injuries) of high milaege and did 85 miles per week for the first 10 weeks of the season. My pr's are now 9:55 (gonna lower that Thursday if I decide to go all-out before my mile), 4:32, 2:04.

Those times should drop even more as I still have 2 1/2 weeks until state.

I've been doing 45mpw consistently for 2 years and plan to bump up to 65 this summer for cross country and go 65-70 in the winter before track.

Training in the winter in CO blows. And CO isn't even that snowy of a state. The wind just blows and it's always like 30.

i run 75 mpw consistantly and i have taken 40seconds of my mile and 1 minute off my 2mile. the two mile would have been more but i had a bad race that killed my mentallity and caused my last two to be bad. i hate having to think during races.
