I am curious how many throwers got started because one or both of their parents threw.
Both my parents were throwers in college...

My dad started his junior year with a 52' in change with no coach and just a bunch of kids from his school coaching him... personal problems kept him out of his senior year and got his full ride for football taken away

My dad was the 1974 Iowa state champion and first all-state team.
He went to a college where they didn't have track but a private sponsor backed his training in the decathalon hoping for a chance at the 1980 Olympics. He got wind that President Carter was going to pull the Olympic team out of the games so he did not enter the trials. Carter did just that and no one went. He was throwing the 2.0 k discus a little over 200 feet which would even break the existing world record for the discus in the decathalon today. My oldest sister came along and he stopped his training to take care of his family.
