Jones, Montgomery not welcome in Europe
Officials won't invite stars to meets because of BALCO
Vincent Yu / AP file
Neither Marion Jones nor Tim Montgomery, shown here in a file photo from 2002, have ever tested positive and both deny ever taking any banned drugs.
Updated: 9:17 a.m. ET May 10, 2005Former triple Olympic champion Marion Jones and her partner Tim Montgomery will not be invited to any European meetings this year because of their association with the BALCO laboratory in California.

World 100 metres record holder Montgomery has been charged with serious doping violations by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, which has also investigated Jones.
A spokesman for British promoters Fast Track confirmed on Tuesday that the Euro-Meetings Group, whose members organise nearly 50 meetings, had agreed the pair would not be invited to Europe.
“There’s no presumption of guilt,” he said. “But unfortunately they carry far too much baggage to be invited to our meetings.”
Montgomery’s appeal against a possible life ban will be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in San Francisco in the week beginning June 6. Neither Jones or Montgomery have ever tested positive and both deny ever taking any banned drugs.

Some Justice is being done....not sure what they mean but not presuming someone like Monty is guilty...He is guilty...Tim took 5 different illegal drugs.
Whether or not it's usable in court, it's still proof he cheated and they are definatly presuming he's guilty as it's 100% fact.

I agree... niether of them should be invited to any of it... I have no sympathy for either one of them... they done made their money they would be wise to just go away, fade out... Tim for shure!!

yeah, Marion has always been a pretty classy girl but Tim is just a yacka$$. I never liked him. It was last year, I think, that he ran like a 10.3 or 10.4 and then he got mad and blamed the fact that he wasn't running good on all the people and media putting all the accusations on him. Pussy! Bonds said the same thing recently, blaming his injuries on stress caused by all the controversy surrounding his drug use "allegations".
Whenever athletes start blaming fans and the media for their problems or poor output, I kind of lose respect for them.

You're playing off what trackdaddy has been saying, right? I don't buy his theory for a second. He's the one with the racism problem, if anyone here. Like someone said, they'd never heard him defend a white guy here on Dyestat.

this is nothing new, except maybe in being announced. randy barnes and other shotputters were not invited to meets on many occasions because of suspicions of doping. the meet promoters don't like the publicity of having a prominent positive drug test at their meet and then there's the hassle of meet records that later turn out to have come during a doping period.

I'm not buying the race thing either and I'm black. But did they go after any other guys they thought were on 'roids as hard as they did with him? Especially after he said what he said about the lazy, slovenly, sloppy Babe Ruth? Now they're saying he may be arrested for tax fraud? Who else have they gone after as they did with him? Heck, John Rocker got off faster than Barry.

Uh, Pete Rose? Marge Schott. George Steinbrenner.
And while John Rocker undoubtedly remains terminally stupid, what rules and/or laws did he break?
And you all need to also remember that throughout all of the BALCO (and pre-BALCO winking) about Bonds, not once has anyone in the Giants organization said anything negative about Bonds, despite him being such a known clubhouse cancer. They have continued to coddle him; I suppose Dr. Phil would call the SF Giants co-dependent about this.

Yea im definitely just playing, lol, i hate bonds with a passion, as i do giambi and mcgwire. But some white athletes do get blamed just as much as black athletes do(i.e. Mcgwire and Giambi). There are more black athletes at the top of most sports than there are white athletes which makes it seem like they are accused more, but its just a matter of overall numbers. Like the classifications of schools. A school with 2000 kids wouldnt be in the same sports league as a school with 200 beacuse there is a much greater chance for there to be great athletes.

about bonds, for any who think he's being persecuted, remember that baseball has not done a single thing to him--it hasn't suspended him, it hasn't suspended any of his records, it hasn't fined him.
kenteris and thanou are, i believe, currently suspended and they were not allowed to participate in the olympics.
the doping hammer throwers lost their medals.
so, i don't think that the europeans are making double standards here.
back in the era of east german and eastern european dopers, that's a different question. they should never have been allowed to compete and set records.
but massive numbers of american sprinters have been caught doping in the past two years, so it's not as if our country has any reason to feel scapegoated when timo and marion are banned after enormous amounts of circumstantial evidence are found.

Yeah, Mcgwire used to be one of my all-time favorites till the hearing a couple months ago. I despise him almost as much as Bonds. The only reason I despise Bonds more is because I think he's a jerk. At least Mcgwire was a nice guy. I actually think John Rocker got it worse than Bonds. I heard a lot worse talk and media about Rocker than I have about Bonds.

Pete Rose's situation was obvious. He basically told on himself after someone claimed to make a deal with him or whatever to avoid consequences. I don't know much about Schott and what has Steinbrenner done that was wrong?

Both Schott and Steinbrenner were removed from controlling their teams twice. Steinbrenner was suspended once after he pleaded guilty to a federal felony conspiracy charge involving illegal campaign contributions to Richard Nixon (he tried to make a deal by alleging that he knew not only about other illegal contributions but sales of ambassadorships and some "stuff" regarding a teamsters slush fund) and the other time after he paid off a gambler to try to get some dirt he could use against Dave Winfield.
Schott was suspended for racist comments (maybe John Rocker should have played for Cincy?), including praising Adolph Hitler in an interview on ESPN. I think that led to her second suspension and ultimately she sold out her interest in the team. She'd also been popped by GM for falsifying records at her car dealerships.
And remember that Rose admitted nothing until he thought it would make him eligible for reinstatement.

(*insert ridiculously predictable defensive cliche' here-->) My best friend is white.
My support for Bonds has nothing to do with color.
Y'all are mad at TrackDaddy because I posted the TRUTH about race in regards to McGwire and Bonds.
AND NO ONE was able to refute what I wrote. No one.
'Cause it was true (I'm reknowned for TRUTH..LOL).
You just aren't used to being told the TRUTH about these things as you live in a propagandist world.
Try this....
Marion Jones isn't anymore guilty than Lance Armstrong.
Is he banned in Europe?
More truth. ;)

You'd know that he has been characterized as temperamental, surly and rude.
And COMBINED, McGwire and Giambi haven't faced the persecution that Bonds has...who, by the way, has more talent than they do COMBINED.
Back to track....
Has Zhanna Block been banned in Europe?

The teams, in many ways, encouraged it.
Besides...way too many people are guilty of using at one time or another.
Even if the media only focuses in on Bonds who, isn't anymore guilty than anyone else.
Is Bonds any more guilty than...anyone else?
Naw.

I don't think there are any degrees of guilt in the case of steroids....
If you used steroids, you are guilty of cheating....if you didn't, you're innocent.
Plain and simple. It's cheating. I don't care if baseball encouraged it, that doesn't make it right. Baseball will suffer as a whole if they start enforcing their own rules - because it is a statistics driven sport....HR's are the biggest stat of all.
If the argument is that "everyone else is doing it" -- that doesn't sit well with me...or with judges.
"Gee officer, everyone else speeds down this road, so it must be ok....." - that doesn't make you innocent.
I always love it when people say something like "he isn't any more guilty that anyone else" - shows that we (collectively) believe some people, especially entertainers and sports heros, are above the rules and laws. And occassionally our judicial system agrees....which really sucks.

While some of the Lance stuff doesn't look good. The mountain of evidence against Marion is much more.
The Europeans should be given the same treatment, but he cares about Hannia Falkyia (sp?) or whatever. Only really track people know who she is despite how fast she ran and how questionable it was. Marion was suppossed to be the grand damme of T & F and Monty the fastest man in the world. Everyone knows who they are and they're smack in the middle of a bombshell investigation. Much bigger deal than a questionable time or rumors here and there.
Baseball hasn't done anything to Bonds, neither has the media. Like someone else said I'm black and I dont' think he's being persecuted. He's the most visible character in a revitalized sport (built on the the back of the long ball) who has numerous links to one of if not the biggest drug scandal on the planet. And he's going after a cherished recored. Aaron's not Ruth's because Ruth doesn't have it. Last time I checked Aaron was black. It doesn't hurt that Bonds is a jerk. Also, if you can't get someone one way the government often goes after them another way. He's the one who had the mistress and cheated on his taxes, and I believed doped so how could one have sympathy for him.
McGuire has been persecuted much more than Bonds believe it or not. His first ballot status into the HOF is in jeopardy. If the vote was taken now he wouldn't get in. He still might not on the first ballot when his time is up. I dont feel sorry for him either. It's his fault. Barry would be voted in today, and will be even if something more concrete comes out. Most sports writers have said no asterix and he was great enough to make the hall before the suppossed controversial years, which I agree with. So how is he being persecuted there. Last I checked McGuire was white too.
If you live in STL like I do, you know that McGuire really wasn't that nice of a guy. He was very surly at times, and handled all the attention of the home run race poorly. Sammy, though he's proven to be a jerk in recent years was the one that handled it well and eventually Mark came around after Sammy was very accessible and had fun, but really only because some of the pressure and much of the spot light was off of him. He's never been that accesible to STL and even before the scandal doesn't really come back to offer anything or his time to the community. Not that he has to, that's his choice.
