234-3 is an incredible throw. I don't seen anyone on the Track and Field New's top-ten listing of returning discus throwers that will break the record. From what I understand Nik ate, drank, and slept discus throwing and trained year-round. His coach was former record holder and Olympian Jay Silvester. Throwing in Utah (at that altitude) doesn't hurt. Here in Florida we are only about 100 feet above sea-level.
My dad thinks that Geoffrey Tabor (sophomore) just might be the guy to break the record. He's a very good judge of throwers. He thinks that he can get the sophomore national record of 201-2 this year. Then he thinks that he will break the junior record of 215. Then he might have a chance to go for THE record. Of course this depends on how hard he works and if he has a good coach.
I think 240 feet may be out of range for anyone. But I guess anything is possible.

Meg Ritchie my own coach and current Record Holder in the Women's NCAA
Discus and Shot Put. Says that no one will break that record well at lease in the next 10 to 15 years. And she knows throws better than anyone in the nation.

Tabor may throw far but no way he goes 201 this year. He is a sophomore but he is 16 like most juniors. I throw against him and he wins every summer at nationals when we are at the top of age group, but he has to put on major weight to go 200. Savage did not break 200 his junior year and he is huge. That dude who threw 234 was insane, blew out his shoulders and I don't think he ever even had a college season. Tabor is too smart and won't do roids. The record will fall but not this year or the next few.
I in no way want to get GT involved. He can speak for himself--or I should say his distances speak for him. My only point was that I "thought" I read somewhere that GT is currently throwing 195 which is only 6 feet from the sophomore record. I told my dad and with that information he said that since he threw 181 last year as a freshman and now around 195 he "could" break the sophomore record and "maybe" the others if he worked hard and has a good coach.
Darius Savage is huge, but he did not progress much from his sophomore throw and his junior best throw. He went to the World Champioinships last year and only threw in the 140s. I don't know if he was sick or what happened to him last year at this world championship meet.
I also checked and Nik is currently a junior at BYU. His farthest throw with the 2.0 k discus is 208-9--which is pretty good for a junior.
This season should be fun! Will anyone break into the all-time boys high school top ten list? That's a good question for another posting.
Good luck!

Darius was having troubles with the smaller discus size he wasnt sick just didnt have a good day and never got used to the discus size. He had 2 sector fouls and his throw of 148'8" was a easy one to get the rhythm in on his 2nd throw.

The record throw was at Arcadia in California not at altitude. Nik's little brother Leif used to post here regularly when he was in high school. Unfortunately, he hurt his foot as a senior and didn't get into the all time top 5.
Your'e right--Arcadia was the place. I didn't mean to suggest that his record throw was in Utah--just that he lived there and threw most of his throws there. The guy was amazing anywhere he threw!

If someone threw 234 than someone will eventually break that mark. Ryuns 3:55 couldn't even stand the test of time.

I don't know about that high school record maybe one day like I said already in an earlier post but if we are talking collegiate. I know someone who could break the collegiate record of 67.66 : 222-00 Hannes Hopley (SMU). This kid is already throwing 160 with the 2k from a quater spin and... he is only a freshman. This guy is tall 6'11'' with long I mean long levers. I think his arm span was almost 7 foot. This guy also is not a lanky kid either he weighs 350. He just has that natural discus talent. He is not very good in the shot but he is working on it but his discus talent is phemonal. But the technique ha.... is horrible I mean horrible. Let him work with a coach considering he never had one through high school and right now with his work ethic I bet ya he could break that record.

Let's just hope that this future record breaker isn't anything like AJ Acosta or Kenny Klotz, they are such a-holes!
Will this new record be on a oversized track or will it be altitude adjusted?
