i'm a distance guy and don't follow much about sprinting, but i'm just curious, there's a guy on my team with PR's of 11.1, 22.8, and 52.7... which of these is best?

That depends. Are they auto times or hand times? Open times or relay splits?

If they're all hand-timed and open, I'd say the 200.

i think the 200 and 100 are relatively even and both slightly better than the 400.

I'm assuming they are all hand-timed, so I am going to have to go with the 200m. An 11.1 hand-timed really is probably around 11.50 to 11.60 auto-time, which I don't think is as good as a 23.1x auto time in the 200m.

However, if we are looking at FAT times of 11.10, 22.80 and 52.70, I would definitely say the 100m is the best.

Those are above-average times....for a tenth grader

I'm pretty sure that's not the issue here. Try not to put somebody down who is simply asking a question. Let's get the new Dyestat starting off on the right foot.

Alright, I'm actually learning stuff about sprinting. I said 200>100>400, and looks like most people agreed. cool!

Brumund-Smith is right. 11.1 isn't as good as 22.8, unless it is FAT, in which case 11.1 is a little better. Both are better than 52.x, but they are all very good times.

those prs are almost identical to mine. ive run a 22.8 and i would say im the most happy with that.

According to the run-down calculator, the 11.1 is the best time, but the 200 is pretty close too.

I think the point we were making about HT vs FAT was that 11.1 hand-timed is probably more like 11.5 given reaction times, whereas a 22.8 isn't distorted as much by anticipation of the athlete finishing or by listening for the gun instead of watching for it.

Those are above-average times....for a tenth grader Judging by his 1989 birthday, I'm guessing he IS a 10th grader. Not sure if this post was trying to put down his times or point his age out, either way, just saying.

If the person is in the 10th grade and runs a 52, he should be able to at least get to 49 in the 400 by the 12th grade

potentially it seems like he can improve to 49....however without knowing any background on him, other PR's or how he has improved I don't know that you can say he DEFINITELY can hit 49.0...I think that sub 50 as a lifetime goal doesn't seem very ambitious, but i also wouldnt say you can guarantee he'll go much faster.

Note: I know you said he SHOULD be able to coach, so I'm not just trying to argue with your point...just giving my opinion on the situation

i hit a 52.8 my soph year

my junior year my best run was a 53.3

then my senior year, my first 400 of the season was a 52.7, so as you can see, just bc you are a soph, you might not improve to a sub 49 by your senior year, but it all depends on various variables

i ran a 52 as a soph and i thought i would be hitting 49s junior year, or senior year. well i was the only returning varsity sprinter going into junior year, and no one else stepped up. so i had to quapruple every single meet. and i sat out of invites so i would just race league meets. well junior year i only hit 52 (i ran like 50 4x4 splits). and this year i only ended up running the 400 twice and had a season best 53. kinda depressing. i would be mad, but i never ever thought i would run a 10.9.

But anyway, it is really hard to estimate what someone will run in the future. Anything can happen.

well my state has 3 of the top 10 sprinters in the nation in j-mee samuels and two teammates of mine, Jonathan Hancock (10.3, 20.94 FAT) and Trenton Guy ( 10.5, 21.xx) and a 47.9 in the 400 cud get u to finals in states, but u probly wudnt win. If u were to drop a 46.0 then, ud be a beast but until then, ur jus gud buddy-o-pal
