Is the race walk still contested for boys at the HS level. I racewalked back in the eighties and was wondering if it was still going?

Only at nationals
Certain forces (close-minded coaches who couldn't deal with their inability to coach an event) pushed the RW out of the NYS program for Boys in 1984. Suffolk County ploded on alone up until about 2 years ago, when they finally dropped it too. There are a smattering of HS age boys doing it around the State, the best of which is Mike Kazmierczak who goes to Holy Trinity on LI.

Why is racewalking an event for girls during the indoor season but not outdoors during spring? Shouldn't it at least be both?
Take that up with the Section Coordinators, the AD's and the NYSPHSAA.
Another question is why the Girls have the option to do an event and that same option is denied to the Boys? (Answer - It's the coaches and their closemindedness about what the purpose of sport is for. They think it is for them, when it is really to provide opportunity for fitness and competition for young adults. It even says this in the NYSPHSAA mission statement.)
This cannot even be justified as an adjustment for Title 9 numbers, as the average Girls team has 5-10 more athletes thatn the average Boys team, state-wide. The State Sport Chairs will hem and haw to come up with any excuse possible to avoid having the RW as event, but none of their blather has any justifiable logic behind it. It is ignorance and laziness, plain and simple.

It's a shame NY omitted the HS RW. Now, if a girl does not have the opportunity to play an equivalent sport, is she not given the ability (by our wonderful Bar Assoc.) to join the boy's team i.e. wrestling? Come on now!!
I sense a revolution. The RW has to make a come back at the HS level. It is going strong in Maine, however the officiating is lagging behind.
