What brand & rim weight do you prefer(lowspin, highspin, very high spin) and how did you come to this(progression)? Please mention the range you throw and your experience(novice, advanced thrower). Do you use different ones depending on the wind(headwind, tailwind, crosswind)?

I am a pretty advanced thrower (low 180's as of right now). I use a Gill High Spin, 80 % rim weight. I have progressed through high school from a very low to the one I throw now. I have always had a pretty good grasp on how to spin the disc of my finger and a nice release, so the higher spin isn't a problem for me.

I've been throwing the Hollowood recently, im pretty sure thats like 75-80% rim weight. My PR from last year was 140'10.5", but I'm over 150 now. Ive been throwing that since I started. Hollowoods are my life.

We have bought a Gill Hollowood star, An OTE High moment, and a Nelco Ultimo in the off season from eBay. Have not tried them all yet. We have been throwing the Hollowood daily.

When it comes to DENFI do you use the SkyMaster, Ultimate Spin or Hyper Superspin?

There was a Skymaster that just sold on ebay for $202.50. Through Web research it appears this is what Niklas Arrhenius used at Arcadia when he set the HS National Record.

The Skymaster has a larger diameter. Can any of you tell me if this meets USATF and AAU approved equipment specs?

the skymaster....I own one, and yes it does meet all the requirements I threw it at the great southwest track classic last year and my regional USATF meet.

Geoff,

Denfi claims the Skymaster will produce "5-8% longer throws than with conventional rim weight discus".

Have you experienced similar results with throwing the Skymaster as opposed to say the Hollowood Star?

Ed

Congrats on the 199' 3"! Outstanding!

well the skymaster I think is better overall but the hollowood does beat it in some instances.....when you have a side wind over 15 or 20 mph, the skymasters will turn over a lot quicker than the hollowoods because they are thinner...as far as the 5-8 percent goes, I'm not sure really. I'd have to probably agree with it.

Thanks, I regard your opinion highly! I am even more inclined to get a Skymaster now.

How about you Sean? You have thrown Denfi, I would greatly appreciate your input as I consider you to be an very accomplished thrower.

well geoffs right about the wind thing and the denfi being thinner. And it flips quicker.so its really all the wind. Or what feels better in your hand that day.

last year we had a pacer gold and the nelco odyssey. the odyssey is tough to throw, with a 92% rim weight i think. the pacer gold is by far my favorite i think its about 87%. we also have an OTE high and UCS oranges.
