Looks like it could be a very fast meet. Wonder what kind of shape El G is in, maybe sub 7:28? I think the article made a mistake with his PR, it's 7:23.09 from '99, not 7:29.09. Could be a great race, I wouldn't think Komen's mark is in any danger though.

El G is going to rule that race. in 5000 would be a better match for Kipchoge, but the closer to the 1500 the race is, the better El G is going to run.

definately a sub 7:30 performance for both. Kipchoge ran 7:33 opener last year and i dont really think it went out that fast. so its gonna be a good race.

I'm offline for a week, now I find out El G is ready to race, and Doha was super fast, this is sweet!

El G in 2003 opened his season with Turin 3k in 7:30 winning by like 10 or so seconds. He wanted 7:26 but the rabbits were too slow. This year he's two years older so maybe he's slower but he is now focusing more on 5k I believe so maybe his speed is the same. Kipchoge won Doha 3k in about 7:28 so he's in shape. I'm pretty suprised Kipchoge ran that fast it's insane, and those other guys too!

This is gonna be a great race!

I predict El G 7:25 and Kipchoge 7:26.

I wonder where El G is racing next and when he'll do his super fast 5k(maybe Ostrava 5k)? I wonder if Kipchoge or Bekele would do Hengelo 5k. I believe Kipchoge won't, he'd do 1500 or 3000 early in season. I don't know about Bekele though.

This is going to be great! Just like I predicted. I thought El G would run 3k/5k to open his season in either: Hengelo, turin, seville, or ostrava. He starts out with Hengelo 3k. This is great!

My bets on Kipchoge, the kid is just on fire. He posted 7.28 in Doha(for your information Doha is in the middle of a desert) I mean its just too hot and dry for such a time. In comparison hengelo is cool and condusive for fast running. I bet Kipchoge could go under 7.26 there. El-G on the other hand is way beyond his prime years and like it or not age is creeping on him, so I doubt that he will manage to go under 7.30, if he does then he will do 7.29/7.28
The result could be Kipchoge 7.25 and El-G 7.29
We'll have to wait and see but its gonna be a damn great race thats for sure.

Interesting prediction. Although El G is not in his prime in the 1500 he should be in his prime for the 3000 and 5000 this year. Remember last year he wanted the 3000m world record? Well in 2004 he didn't do as much 3k/5k training as he did in 2003 because he had troubles. He wanted the 3000 world record even though he wasn't in top shape for the longer races, that says something. In 2005 he is focusing more on the 3k/5k so I believe he can get the world record in both events this year. But you are right that Eliud Kipchoge is in great shape. It will be a great race for sure, although I'm betting on Hicham El Guerrouj.:eek:!!!
