Do you guys race with watches? I'm thinking that maybe I should, but then I think I may be too paranoid and always looking at my watch...

you are allowed in ohio, if you are worried about looking at too much have people yell out your splits

i think theyre nice cause you can see your splits and all that, they can be annoying if you look at them like 500 times though.

So far this season I've done it every race I think. The first few races (400, 200, 800) I wanted more specific splits than my teammates were taking (I wanted the 200s in my 8) and in the 2 and the 4 I wanted my actual times.
Saturday I was running a 2mile at a frosh soph meet and I decided to wear my watch because all of my teammates were too lazy to come to the meet so there was noone to yell out splits to me.

How do you get your actual times in a 200 and 400. Don't you have to be out of the blocks alot faster in those races. Or get out fast or something like it.

i run with a watch mainly to get my finish time. i it when the timer doesn't say a time and you have to ask around to get a time, thus i wear my watch. i also like my first 200 time, and other various splits depending on the race

alan webb was taking his own splits at the USATF T&F Championships this summer. during the race I was like, wtf, how can you go that. but i suppose if he can do it, there, anyone should be able to do it anywhere. i know thats not the rule some places, but still.

you can't wear them in NY, and technically there is an anti-coaching rule, where coaches can't...well...coach athletes or something during their event (my coach just told me this), but nobody listens to the rule cause its stupid, but technically, its illegal to have someone yell splits or give form info or something during a race i think, and they can't stand in certain areas (like the highjump area) during meets.

i've had officials yell splits to me (and seen it done for teammates too).. i find it hard to believe id see officials break the rule so many times..

i have a watch that you can set for certain times to beep louding for 2 seconds so after i press start i just usually listen to the beeps and then stop it at the finish

today in my 3200 i didnt have a watch but there was a clock at the start/finish line, so i knew my 400 splits and stuff, which was nice. but dont crazy and look at em like every 100m..you'll get so caught up in worrying about your times and you probably wont race that good.

i wear it but dont use it, just leave it at time of day. It is a comfort thing for me to have it on though.

I've worn a watch a few times in XC like the begining meets, then toward the end of the season I just tend to take it off right before the race. In track I've worn it a few times for the 3200 though, but I always wear one for practice.

I think watches can hold you back. I think that you just need to run the race as it comes. when you get into bigger races you just have to run to win not for time
i pretty much have mine on at all times but i only start it up for the 3200 and usually the 1600 if i want to see my 200 splits...

When I do the 800, I have ask someone who's warming up to jog back and fourth and give me my 200 splits. It helps a lot. Pythagorean theorem is in their favor too, so I don't have to do much coaxing to get them to do it.
Also, I have a question. Do you wear your watch in the shower?

i think it all depends on where you run i usually wear a watch during practice just to see my splits but come to meets were not allowed.
