i say no.
he'll win, and win handily, but i don't think he'll have anyone to push him long enough to run that fast. i don't think anyone in the field has run within 10 seconds of him over 2 miles.
i think he'll run in the 8:22-8:25 range.
however, i wouldn't be completely shocked if he ran faster - every time he runs he does something special.

I guess it depends on whether he wants to simply go for the win or if he wants to push hard to see how low he can go. I agree with GTK, some time in the low/mid 8:20s seems reasonable, but the ability to go lower than that probably exists if conditions dictate.
Keep in mind that during his 8:05 at Penn, Trautmann was alone for a large portion of the race and romped by about 15 seconds.

both 4:05's were run from behind with tons of guys to chase. i suspect that after 2k, forys might be running on his own.
forys doesn't have much competition here - duplinsky is often mentioned, but he hasn't run anything of note outdoors, and had one race indoors. in fact, his best races came in xc right after his world triathlon victory. after him, it's a bunch of guys from NJ - jarrett, massam, and perrella - who forys has seen a million times before.

With the two Colt's Neck girl's in the race, you never know; could be one or the other...
However, you can't count out Catherine White of Roanoke, VA. She has put up some good times this winter/spring track season including a 4:53.24 1600 @ VHSL Group AA State Meet, a 10:43.12 (2M) @ the Taco Bell Classic, and a 10:32.27 (2M) at NIN (2nd place finish)
Everyone seems to be interested in the Boys HS 3000 but the Girls HS 3000 (on paper) should be more of a nail-bitter...

Everyone makes a prediction or two...if you dare you will be wrong sometimes..he was beaten by a guy who ran a top 5 time ALL Time at penn in April
Forys ran as a Junior 9:02 yards conversion in April....not many guys do that.
I will venture a guess? and bet he runs faster than 8:57 yards on a FRiday night in Greensboro.

Good call.
You're absolutely right. I missed it big time.
On a related note, the public flogging will take place this afternoon in Canton Square in Baltimore. I will be in the stockade from approximately 1-4. Feel free to bring as much rotten fruit as you wish, as there will only be a limited amount for sale when you get there.

Aside from running by himself that day, Trautman had poor weather conditions. It had drizzled a lot that day. By the time the 3k came to be run, the old cinder track was really chewn up, especially that inside lane. It felt as though we would have a downpour at any time.
I was there watching. I remember that race fairly well. Actually both races, Trautman by himeself; and, the rest of the entrants in their own race.

It was raining that day, but the cinder track wasn't hampering Traut. It was a green synthetic surface in the 80's.
