I am running the 10k at my conference meet this weekend. I am the 9th seed in a field of 20ish, and 8 score. The 7th seed is on my team, and I am pretty confident I can beat him. He has never run the 10k, so my coach phoned his time in a little (even though we're all listed as No-Time, it's obvious that's the way the list is written). So I figure I am the 8th seed. Here's my dilema. The guy ahead of me is a sub 32 10k runner... in cross country. The guy behind me was slower than 33:30 for 10k in cross country, and ran about 9:10 for 3k in indoors and 4:08 for the 1500. I have run 15:40 for 5k (though I have not really run it in outdoors) and ran a 32:49 in my debut 10k.
Should I try to stick on the guy ahead of me on the seed list and hang on for dear life (hoping he runs conservatively for points) or should I sit on the guy behind me and my teammate and then hope I can outkick them both for 8th?
