How long do any of you think a stress fracture in the foot would take to heal, it hasnt been confirmed, but, i have a sharp pain in my right foot when i walk around and have been icing it up twice a day. I am going to check it out this week with my doctor, but i wanted the two cents of my fellow dyestaters.

I just had one in my 3rd metatarsle, recommended rest was 4-6 weeks, but my doctor had me on crutches/walking boot for 7 (i value cc over track and refuse to get hurt this summer). After that its about 2 weeks to get back into raceing, my tendons and such hurt like hell at when i started running again (which is a slow process). I would recommend doing deep water running if you arent already, a great workout and didnt hurt my foot at all.

BUMP

hey I have a stress fracture (lower left tibia) and it has been 7 weeks since the injury, I went for a 20 minute run because it was feeling like it was gone. About 10 minutes into the run I started to feel it a little, and now this morning it is a little sore when applying pressure to it.

Should I wait to start running on it until I feel no pain at all, or can I continue to run on it with the assumption it'll be totally gone soon, or will the pain get worse? can I reinjure the fracture?

Thanks, this is my first stress fracture and I really want to start running again!!!!

Mine only took about a month and a half to heal, which is lucky because I had been running on it for like a month after it started hurting. :o

OK i dont want to make a new thread for this and im hoping someone can help me out.

I upped my mileage way too much last summer (from 35 to 65) and on top of it i started running in road racers with very little support. Things were great for about 12 weeks, I got fast and looked forward to improving even more during the season. Then a week into the racing season I feel a sharp pain in my ankle. I get an x ray (xrays do not show stress fractures, i did not know this at the time) and everything seems fine, the school trainer writes it off as shin splints, i try to run through it for another 2-3 weeks by staying on grass and what not. By the end of this charade I am in serious pain every time I try to run and my XC season is over. I still think it is shin splints, so I take 3 weeks off and I run pain-free for a week after that, when the pain returns. This time i go to an orthopedist who gets me a bone scan and sees I have a stress fracture in my tibia (this is in december). I take 6 weeks off but after that my ankle still hurts and I cant even run on an elliptical without it hurting. Well now its June and my ankle still hurts and Im wondering when and if im ever going to be able to run again. Im scared to start and further injure myself and I have no idea what is wrong.

Anyway sorry for the novel, but can anyone help?

At the end of xc I had one in both my 2nd and 3rd metatarsals. I Took like eight weeks off just to be cautious, but I did not need a special shoe, boot, or crutches thankfully.

you said you got a stress fracture in your shin but your ankle hurts? might be another injury. talk it over with you orthopedist and just rest until you find out what it is.

It would hurt all over my foot and ankle and shin. Never in one specific place.

alright i've got a question for the stress fracture thread. my foot has been hurting since january in the same spot (at first a little, then the pain slowly got worse... peaked in about march... and has settled down to occasional pangs. doesn't hurt during runs... but often while walking. i can pass the 10-jump test, but it hurts. sound like a stress fracture to you guys?

I would see as many docs as you can, everything from family doc to orthopedist to sports med. If it hurt in that wide of an area, you have one hell (actually a lotta) stress fracture. But that isnt the only reason for pain. My cousin has this thing that screwed up her arch, and she cant run for like 3 months, so you could have a deeper problem that caused the stress fracture the first time.

stress fractures have a "hot spot" if there is one point in your foot on the bone where you push and you feel the pain then that is a sign towards a stress fracture. Now that doesn't mean you do have one just by that test, i'm no doctor/trainer.
