Looks like a lot of people have prequalified. So, who wins the 1600m?

i've never heard of any of those names :(

I've only heard of Tommy Walton and the Rasmussens (and maybe Pennell?)
So I'll pick someone at random ...
Bobby Potrykus, YOU ARE THE WINNER!

I just took the 10 fastest times off the CHSAA website.
I think Potrykus might've been a good choice, because I think he has the fastest 1600m time so far this year. 4:23.XX I think. Not sure.

Leon told me he wasn't going to run the mile at state. Also, I don't know who is running the 4x8 and who isn't, but it will probably go to someone who runs it fresh like the Rasmussens or Cam Carter (apparently his team isn't stacking the 4x8 which is kind of weird because they have Carter at 1:56 and Larson at 1:55 and I don't know who else but that's pretty solid)

Leon may not be running the mile, but is he running the 1600?
I understand though, last year he had to double back from the 4x800 and ran like 15 seconds off his PR. It'd be too bad though, as I'm sure he could still place this year.
I'm certain G. West could have a killer 4x800 team, but I don't think Cam Carter has ran 1:56 (at least not this season, he hasn't prequalified in the 800) and Larson hasn't ran 1:55, it was a 1:56. Not that it's too big a deal, but either way. The next two people on the team would probably be Jimmy Canali (4:36 1600m) and Spencer Carter (4:40-10:10-ish). They would probably be able to run near 8:00.

I watched Larson run a 1:55 and I watched Carter split a 1:56.

Where did Larson run 1:55 and how is he seeded 5th in the 800 if he did? Regionals maybe?
Splitting a 1:56 is different than running one in the open, I think. A friend of mine split 1:54.8 in the 800 and could only manage 1:56.03 in the open.

Yeah it was regionals. And splitting is faster, but only by a second usually, and if you consider that then larson could split a 1:54, putting them ten seconds under 8 after two guys, but I don't really understand why they wouldn't stack the 4x800.

Yeah, makes no sense. Is Mountain View stacking their 4x800? If Kevin Williams runs on the 4x800 for D'Evelyn, I bet they'll win.

D'Evelyn should win...that is...if Mountain View doesn't trip them again.

Anyone who watched the race would know that the D'Evlyn guy sped up as soon as he saw he was getting passed and since he sped up he tripped on Mountain View's legs, so it was not MV's fault. Thompson Valley should have a solid team too.

Oh is that it? Is that why MV got disqualified, because it was the D'Evelyn runner's fault?
Let me guess, the officials unfairly disqualified MV as well?

is Ige from South 5a or 4a? because i thought he won state in xc for 4a boys.

XC he's 4a. Track he's 5a.
I think it's because track and xc have slightly different student number qualifications. South just happens to be one of those schools that falls in the middle ground. Correct me if I'm wrong Brad.

You appear to be an idiot. Not too personally, but I have talked with most everyone on MV's XC/Distance team, and no one on their 4x800 would trip someone on purpose. Also, don't you think if you wanted to purposely do that to someone you would have to slow down to do so?
No, they didn't purposely cheat. It was completely accidental. However, I wouldn't say they were "unfairly" DQed because it still abused D'Evelyn's chance. However its sad to see MV run so well and not get credit for it. And I know something about that. Two years ago I ran the 4x800 at state and we placed 5th in 8:04 only to get DQed because our 3rd leg apparently "cursed" as he handed off the baton. Last year we ran the second fastest time in 4A (behind D'Evelyn's 7:54 or whatever) at regionals (with our 4th runner at 2:12, at that) only to be DQed for the jewelry rule. Neither were on purpose. Sometimes you make a mistake and have to take the crap for it.

I never said Mountain View intentionally tripped the D'Evelyn runner. The fact remains that he did trip him. Intent or not, it happened. Furthermore, I never discussed intent, you brought in the assumption that it was intentional.
Your last sentence sums it up better than I ever could. These rules aren't hidden. When you break them, there are consequences. I don't really see it as "taking crap". Sure there are heartbreaking stories of teams getting disqualified for seemingly miniscule infractions, but rules are in place for a reason - to be enforced. In most cases, intent doesn't really matter to the rulebook.

I usually don't look at this stuff but some my athletes thought I should. I am the coach at D'Evelyn. The 4 x 8 last year was an unfortunate event for both our team and Mountain Views. Those things happen. Great athletes learn from such experiences and elevate their performances. I am convinced that the negative experience at state for our team helped to propel us to a great national performance. And Mountain View? This great program went on to win the 4A Cross-Country Championships the next fall and, I believe, are the outright favorites to win the Track title Saturday. Just my two cents.

I never said it was D'Evelyn's fault. I said it wasn't MV's fault. Obiously no one intended for it to happen. Both teams lost out. I was just saying that MV had room to cut in untill the guy sped up.
