What time do you think it will take to make the fast heat?
As a runner from Stevenson that is now switched into the Antioch/Grayslake Sectional... I feel that the two milers up here may be getting short-changed. I mean, granted the Palatine Sectional had the potential to pull us out too fast, but from the looks of it there are only 3 guys that have a realistic shot at state cut up here and only one has actually gone under already.
I think it will take a 9:30 to make the fast heat.

yeah but what i think he meant was the fast heat at state will definitely be way faster than the palatine fast heat cutoff of 934, prolly closer to 925-927 im guessing

What I meant was, just qualifying in my sectional ain't gonna put me in the fast heat.

sub 930 i say

depends largely on how many make it. Last year since there was a ton of people overall there was a ton in the fast heat. I'm gonna say 9:31

since I guess I'm part of the reason this thread was created, I'll share what my mindset is in the situation presented.
I think that in order to guarantee being in the fast heat you need to run a 9:25...that's the slowest time that you truly feel completely safe with in my opinion. Anywhere from 9:25-9:30 you're cutting it close and anything above 9:30 you need to start praying for a slow Palatine race.
Just remember everyone how packed that fast heat was last year (wasn't it 26 guys?)....a lot of people will make it in that aren't from the Palatine sectional

This could be one of the fastest sectional qualifying years we have seen lately....the weather should be great!
In terms of the 3200, I think we are looking between 9:26- 9:28 to make it to the fast heat at State...Palatine Sectional alone should bring in 12. That would be the fastest sectional qualifier since 1980....
Note: I made the state meet in the 3200 in 1980....I ran 9:24 at sectionals...cut off for the fast heat was 9:23!

Depends on how many qualify.
Last year 28 made the fast heat, two scratched and one DNF. Total field was 55. 27 in slower qualifiers heat

I looked at the heat at the palatine sectional and it looks like the whole fast heat has a chance to qualify. What about the other heats of the 3200 can anyone from there have a chance to hit the quailfying time?

How did you do the next week at the State Meet? Were the State 3200 meter times as fast as the Sectional times in 1980.
Whatever happened to Matt Nolan from Naperville Central who went sub-9 to win the State title in 1980?
There are only about 20 AA runners who have run under 9:35 so far this year, and a few of them won't compete in the 3200 at Sectionals. I would be very surprised if a 9:30 Sectional time doesn't get you into the fast 3200 heat at the State Meet.

So So at state ran about 9:28...winning time in the slow section was 9:16 by Nick Whiteside...that did not place....8th place was 9:10...very fast year.
Matt Nolan went to Auburn University...transferred after his freshman year to North Central College....was an all american there....(i ran with Matt at North Central)...I think he ran around 3:46-7 for 1500....

I think it was just an accident at county, because the kid never ran. As far as I know he isnt seeded anywhere near that at sectionals.

He is. He's seeded at 9:28 once again.
What the **** is with that? Did he run only 7 laps to get that?
That still wouldn't make sense with a seed time of 5:37 in the mile. Though no one at the back of this fast heat is making state, I still think it's bull**** that that kid is in over someone else.

At a 5:37 mile ur looking at about an 11:50 2 mile. So for 7 laps that would be about a 10:25. He must have stopped at 2500m lol. I found it intersesting that they made the cut at a decimal so some people running the same time were in the fast heat and some in the slow heat.

They didn't do it this way last year. Jake Bruene (TF South) and John Walter (Marian Catholic) went 1-2 in the Thornridge Sectional and both were in the slow heat of the 3200 at state. I think they take the top half or so and put them in the fast heat. I never remember them having sectional winners automatically go to the fast heat at state, that's why guys that are on the cusp have to run hard at sectionals.
