Hey, I'm primarily a jumper, but we didn't have any jav throwers at our dual meet yesterday, so I threw Jav. I fouled my first 2 throws and threw 140+ on my 3rd throw(don't remember exact distance), good enough for 2nd place. The official said my first throw was over 160(not sure how true that it). I haven't really trained at all for the jav, I had only thrown it a few times in practice before. What should I do to work on my throw?

Block your last step, its one of the few times you will end up running on your heels (feels unnatural at first, especially for the sprint/jump types)

Part the sky with your opposite hand, get good torque with your off hand whipping your throwing arm through

yea, my jav PR is less than 100 feet. Worthless post.

I have only been throwing the jav for a year so i dont know very much, i just learned from other throwers b/c I live in Texas and dont have a coach
my pr is 168-10

A lot of people slow down when they are about to throw, but you have to keep your speed up all the way through your throw.

Its a different movement than the shot or disc so you have to learn how to use your hips and block your arm differently

its kinda tough to explain it without seeing u throw it but making sure that your throwing arm is kept back all the way and making sure your tip is alligned with your eye is important so u dont throw it too high...also the block on the last step is super important as it transfers practically all of your momentum into your throw

get a lot of power out of your penultimate step, and make sure your release is quick but smooth. otherwise your power is lost.

yeah at the texas relays i could tell you were a little off. Your technique was off and you were STILL throwing 56 to 57. If you would of hit it right you would of probably beat trey jordan and guillory easy....do you know where you're going to school next year?

ya, i scratched out of the shot put and only threw in the 160's in disc in that meet

i had a problem all year scratching in meets because i never stayed in in practice. I usually hit 59s and 180s almost every throw in practice, i just couldnt do it in a meet and stay in the ring.

Im going to throw at U. of Houston next year.

oh ya, and Chris isnt going to Southwest, he is just going to NON
