There seems to be a lot of Boys discussion for the top ten. How about the Girls.
1. Ridgefield
2. Glastonbury
3. Lyman Memorial
4. Guilford
5. Simsbury
6. St.Bernard
7. Wilton
8. East Lyme
9. Amity
10. South Windsor
Just my opinion
Anna Shields had a great season in Track, will it be her or Sorrell or maybe Mitchell ?

Lyman 107
Glastonbury 181
Guilford 249
East Lyme 283
Wilton 307
Griswold 342
Ridgefield 389
St. Bernard 397
Simsbury 413
Darien 416
Amity 420
This is how I see the preseason. Simsbury and Ridgefield have the coaching ability to easily move up with runners I don't know about yet. This is based on a couple guesses that might change before the season even starts. We'll see.

Lyman Memorial, with Kelly Sorrell winning individually.

I think G-Bury looks the best so far because they got a solid 5

Is Lyman going to run at a big invitational this year?
I am getting tired of seeing New England teams ignored by the NTN committee.
I am hoping that Bromfield MA goes to the Great American again this year, or Manahttan.

I still think Great American is a double edged sword. One thing I noticed about Bromfield is how well they progressed as the season went on. What they show in September might be significantly different than what they have in November. It's a shame this system penalizes teams for a well timed peak.

Peopkle are saying that there is going to be a change in the NTN committee make-up this year, so maybe there will be more emphasis on end of the season performance this year. We can only hope.

I agree, I would expect it to be one of those 3.
I'm gonna go with:
Sorrell (little lead)
Shields (really close to Mitchell)
Mitchell ^

After taking her PR's from over 5:20 and 2:20 to 5:04 and 2:13, respectively, I'm thinking Olson might be in the mix.

Lyman will not only win the open but will be a stong contender for NTN

Olsen will definitely be a contender. She seems to take on any challenge offered. A toss up between Stephens, Shields and Sorrell, then Mitchell. As a team, Ridgefield loses Rosenfeld, Teitsworth and Murdoch, also Fleming. That's a big hunk of their team. See if Navarro and Holmes can contribute. Lyman and Glastonbury should do really well. If they're lucky, their teams will stay healthly and it will be a great competition!

There's been no mention of Emma and Caitlin from Conard. Caitlin showed great improvement in the indoor and outdoor 2 mile runs. Also, Heather Stephens will be a strong contender.

yea, i agree! Caitlin had really shown herself to be a contender. She will be someone to watch for. However, i haven't seen much of Emma lately. Was she injured this last season (outdoor)?

I keep thinking she graduated.

I agree, they're a very strong team this year and a strong contender for Nationals. Individually it will probably be Sorrell, Mitchell, and Shields in the top 3.

I recall Brown allowing individual entries. Gawrych comes to mind. I think they will even allow a top individual to run the championship race while the rest of the team, if not that strong, runs a size race. Not 100% sure though.

Everyone's waiting to see some action before more discussion on state results. Last year the Windham Invitational had 3 varsity girl's races with the top 2 in each race going on to finish 1,2,3,6 and 21 at State Open. Kerri Lyons at 4th in the Open ran in the hometown Wilton Invite. On the 16th, the State's best will be more certain.

The only productions I will make with regards to the girls is that it will take 15:35 to make top 10 and 15:05 to have a chance to win. Lots of talent returning. This is based on course conditions like last year.
1 Kelly Sorrell 100 Lyman Memorial 11 15:13 6:10
2 Kristin Mitchell 56 Glastonbury 10 15:15 6:11
3 Emma Perron 24 Conard 11 15:22 6:14
6 Anna Shields 88 Lewis Mills 9 15:42 6:22
7 Jamie Olson 58 Glastonbury 11 15:47 6:24
8 Courtney Dinnan 81 Hamden 10 15:50 6:25
10 Dana Troy 101 Lyman Memorial 11 15:52 6:26
11 Christina Wells 150 Shepaug Valley 11 15:54 6:26
12 Alasia Griebel 12 Bristol Central 11 15:56 6:27
13 Caitlin Cannon 199 Conard 11 16:01 6:30

Conard girls move to my top ten today. With a little time to develop the new talent, a New England dark horse. Will have their coming out party at Windham.

Ridge girls should be considered back into contention. Today Stephens ran 19:38 and another Ridge Junior (sprinter who joined XC a few days ago) finsihed only 20 seconds behind her with the the other top 5 under 21:30

Sisyphus...I heard that she was on a trip with her family. I also know that they ran without 2 other varsity runners. Bonito (sick) , and Farnham (injury)

I look forward to seeing what Guilford has at full strength. Or maybe I don't; depending on whether I'm looking at it from a fan's or coach's perspective.

When a team has a very strong frontrunner (or two) they can gain a lot on team time but only a point or two in team points. This gives them a large time advantage but not necessarily a a large point advantage. If another team makes up points with #3-5 runners they can gain a significant amount of points with only a few seconds as the middle of the pack is denser than the front. For an example of this, look at the boys LL last year. Newtown was 4th in the race with the 6th fastest team time. This was due to their incredible pack but lack of stellar #1.

Results for Wickham Invite, Girls' Championship (http://www.mysportsresults.com/Results/XC2006/WI06-GChamp.html)
I heard that the course is 4250 meters... correct me if I'm wrong, but would this make the times about a minute faster if the course was 4000 meters?
sisyphus
10-08-2006, 02:39 PM
That's about right; but remember Wickham hasn't been 4000 meters since the mid 90's.
