There have been predictions going around on who will win the D1 title. I decided to make a poll to get some organization to all the predictions. Cast your vote. I voted Brookline

Brookline needs one more year, then they will dominate.
This year its defineatly Brockton.

Brockton is looking like the favorite, but anyone who's run at Brookline's home course knows they can run the hills, which could make the difference at Northfield.

To be honest I didn't think Larz was as hilly as you guys seem to make it out to be.

I wouldn't rule out St. John's Shrewsbury. They are very deep and could survive the loss of a top 5 guy better than most.
Amherst-Pelham and Ludlow, running on their WMass course, have dark horse potential.
Mansfield can't be disregarded either.

Gardner also returns soph. Steve Lajoie and freshman Zach Ouellete, Joe Weber and Jak Kelley, don't they?

Larz may not have left much of an impression - but it is worse than Northfeild from what I hear. I know first hand it isn't just about the size of hills at Larz, and how steep they are, but rather that you have to constantly change speeds with all of the uphills and downhills.

Yeah everyone talks about Brockton and to some degree Brookline too like they are safe. But they are not. I voted Brockton anyways, they are more likely but not gaurenteed to win.

Plus we got a sleeper in Denis Healey. 2:07 800 this spring and he improved 2 minutes about on our home course last year. He was up with Jak Kelley and i wouldn't be surprised if he was up with Oulette and Weber AT LEAST.
we're about 10 guys deep at least and they all are shooting for a top 5 spot. We could def. have a spread of 7 guys under a minute on a slow day.
im not gonna take a side on whether we're a sleeper or not but i will throw out some extra information out there.

Brockton and Brookline should be going 1,2 for years to come.

That's alot of pressure to put on a program... "for years to come". This year I think it would be doubtful for anyone other than the two to win, but it could happen. After that, take a look at some of the freshman races from last fall. Examples:
McIntyre Bay State freshman race last year:
1 Newton South HS 77 3 4 20 23 27 50 53
Total Time: 55:52.00
Average: 11:10.40
2 St. John's Shrewsbury 78 1 5 8 29 35 52 80
Total Time: 55:36.00
Average: 11:07.20
MSCTA Coaches Invitational last year:
1 Newton South HS 63 3 4 13 21 22 23 50
Total Time: 58:08.80
Average: 11:37.76
2 Chelmsford High School 106 8 14 20 25 39 48 83
Total Time: 59:52.70
Average: 11:58.54
Newton South is going to have a VERY good team this year and next year, and could be an all-state champion, with the right work wthic, in 2 or 3 years. It's hard to stay on top for a long time. I agree they'll both be near the top for a while, but not "years to come"

Anything can happen in cross country.
St. John's Prep won the MIAA State meet three years ago, and they barely qualified for the meet, finishing 5th. They had prepared all season for Northfield Mountain, doing lots of hills, up and down. They were physically and mentally ready for the course. They also timed their peak perfectly.
It all depends on motivation, preparation, summer miles, and a bit of luck.
Anything can happen, though Brockton and Brookline are the favorites.

Oh, sure Brockton and Brookline are two good teams, but its hard to forecast with accuracy even 2 years into the future for any team. They look like they will be going 1-2 this year, although I could see either Brookline placing 3rd or 4th, or if Brockton not winning, or on an outside chance both.

not trying to bash on sandwich, but it does help when at least one of your runners has state meet experience and if more than two of the returnees have broken 18mins at FP
