Whatsup? Whose going this year?

Paul Banks
07-15-2006, 01:21 PM
I'm psyched, Chris Lear (author of Running with the Buffaloes) will be speaking there, but he may not top being able to run with Robert Gary last year. Yes, I will be attending, can't wait to whoop some ass in skits and games again... I assume that the usual schools/guys will be attending?

brickrunnin06
07-15-2006, 01:30 PM
yeah i'll be returning as a counselor though. Chris Lear should be great as well as Carrie Toffelson (spelling?)

Thanks a lot, man.

It looks pretty cool, but VERY structured. Not to say that structure is a good or bad thing.

Fahey, do you know if alot of Xavier guys are going? (Did Spector convince you guys?)

Believe me, it is NOT very structured..... the schedule thing is just a basic guideline. We do our 2 runs a day, but we have alot of free time to do whatever. Actually I think its a good balance of work and play. Probably about 50:50.

mattfahey07

At this point its me ,1 or 2 frosh from last year and a few other undecided. Im deff going though. We have been going to GMRC, so allota guys dont wanna stop going their, but I like change....Spector says it will be a good time.

hahaha Meloro was pretty interesting last year, but Robert Gary cheating at flag football was way better. Apparently, girls can come too this year, there'll be more than 5. I'm gonna be there.

Paul Banks

Oh, man Robert Gary was the man... It doesn't really matter how many girls go because either way they will end up amazingly hot by the end of the week. Anyway, looking foreward to going back... maybe play less sandstorm this time though

What should we bring?

CT_Runner

I suppose that depends. If you are in a cabin with J Rags and the other Wilton boys be sure to bring shiny club shirts for the nightly dance party.

Paul Banks
07-20-2006, 03:05 PM

Music(such as Sandstorm and Led Zepplin) is always appreciated, If you plan on blasting it, bring a stereo because there are outlets in the cabins
Magazines or books or whatever
Props for skits, anything random and crazy such as tofu, a leprachaun, and silly string will be appreciated
Sporting gear, anything from baseball gloves and balls to frisbees, tennis raquets, basketballs, footballs etc. there are plenty of places around the campsite to use them (there is a basketball court, tennis court, small lake/pond, 2 big fields, a frisbee golf setup, open space around cabins)
FOOD, you are allowed to bring whatever food you want, but dont be stupid and bring a steak or something, just bring snack stuff that can be easily sealed or stored away (there was a squirell eating food in my cabin 2 years ago)...and bring LOTS of water and gatorade
Video camera/ camera/cellphone camera/ cellphones are good too, just for having fun and stuff....
Also, a good storage unit like a huge duffel bag or backpack, or preferrably a big footlocker is good for keeping your stuff organized.
Anything else you guys are going to actually use will be good...see you at camp

So uh, how much did you guys run last year and how fast? Like how are the groups split up?

Paul Banks
07-25-2006, 08:46 AM
The Running Scheme works like this:
There are 4 running groups that you could be assigned to, and they are all based on your ability/PRs. They normally have funky names based on TV shows (the cartmans, the Kramers). In the slowest group as a guy, you will probably hit around 30-40 miles at a decently slow pace (7:45-8:15), since it is geared for begining runners. The third group you log about 40-55 miles at an average to slow pace per run (7:15-8:00). The Second group hits around 55-65 miles at an above average to normal pace (6:45-7:30). The First, and fastest group gets in about 60-70 miles at a fast pace (6:30-7:00).
As an individual runner, you can be switched from group to group based on how you handle the runs. In the 6 days we are there, the formula for training is usually: 1) easy run 2) long run 3)tempo 4)easy run 5)threshold 6)easy run, for the main afternoon runs only. The morning runs are always just easy shakeout runs that range from 15-30 minutes depending on the day and group. Again these are just approximate miles and paces, they range from day to day and who runs with you (example. Robert Gary > Marty Ogden).

Of course you have to factor in that there will be many more kids this year so there will probably be more groups = a narrower range of abilities in each group. Then you have to factor in the favoritism towards the athlates that run for the directors' teams.

Paul Banks
07-26-2006, 10:43 AM
Yes, the running academy is really a secret Nazi KKK clan that has vowed to destroy "minority" runners through acts of racism, violence, and long speeches by Seth Spector.

No, but seriously the runners on Directors teams DO get better placement in more challenging groups. The setup of groups and such will prabably be alot different this year because of the larger number of campers (I've heard in between 100-150??? ).

They can only go by what information you give them. It also helps if they know your abilities so they can put u in proper groups even if your p.r.s don't match. They try to be fair, but it's not like you can't change groups once your there.

Running under him for 2 years, i have found that Lord Seth Spector is the single greatest human being on the planet bar none. when he makes guest appearances at our banquets, he gets more applause than the current coaches.
Anyway, to be honest, the running academy was the best week of my entire life. i know thats pretty sad, but i loved it.
100-150 kids? that would suck. but maybe we'll crack double digit females this year. wilton will be throwing down me (jeff ragazzini) and lucas fuentes again, hopefully in the top group, and '05 neil adige will hopefully be a bunk councelor person. it might not be the same without mellow tho... Further/conflicting information regarding certain questions -

2 - Probably, for the first couple of days and then he has to head back to school early, Go Trinity!
3 - Yes he is the man, but he has work related issues and can't make it this year but will be with us in spirit. Led Zeppelin totally owns everyone though.
4 - He's even more the man after he showed off his crazy wheels in a 4x8. Shortest surfer kid to ever run that fast.
6 - Yes, and I think some will be on sale as well.
7 - Reason #726 that Led Zeppelin owned everyone, even if not all of the counselors could appreciate our amazingness.
8 - Though Brendan may have totally forgotten the awesome people letter game, it will be back with all new questions.
9 - Though pantsing Neil may be funny, he is greater than you because 1) his school allows co-ed dorms and has a Cricket team and 2) Graham and his roided up beefiness will destroy you should you try to pants him. Also, nobody thought the Wilton kids that year were cool. At least they were nowhere near as cool as Fuentos or JRags. So be cool, don't pants Neil.

Tollefson wins for Second Consecutive Year

Carrie Tollefson (St. Paul, Minn.) kicked hard on the last straightaway to win the 11th Annual Falmouth Mile. Tollefson’s time, a personal best, of 4:27.95, was the fastest in the world this year, Fastest in the U.S., and second fastest ever in the Falmouth Mile. Meet record is 4:25.82 by Suzy Favor Hamilton (2002).

Tiffany McWilliams (Starksville, Miss.) the leader at 400 meters (63.7), 800 meters (2:12.2) and 1200 meters (3:21.5). McWillams’ set an early torrid pace trying to take the sting out of the field. But her race in Eugene, Oregon, on Tuesday night seemed to take something out of her as Tollefson and Erin Donohue pulled alongside with 200 meters to go.

Tollfeson and Donahue inched in front of McWilliams. On the home straight Tollefson kicked hard for the second year in a row to win in 4:27.95, her personal best. Erin Donohue slipped into second also with her personal best of 4:28.98, while McWilliams hung on to run 4:29.55, running her personal best. Jenelle Detherage (Madison, Wis) was fourth in 4:31.83 and Sara Hall (Mammoth Lakes, Cal) fifth in 4:35.02.

should we run tommarow befor we come

It depends on
a) what Spector tells you to do...
b) what you run today.

I would say that if you do a long run or a workout today you can just wait until tomorrow afternoon to run. If you went easy and need to get a few miles in for a weekly goal, then running tomorrow morning would be okay.

We will be running at camp on Sunday, so unless you've been doing doubles all summer don't run Sunday morning. Last year I did a very hard run on Saturday thinking the first run of camp would be nice and easy, but a few youngin's thought pushing the pace Sunday would be fun. But that's because its the Running Academy, and we don't **** around.

CT_Runner
08-19-2006, 07:15 PM
That is unless you usually get your long run in on Sundays. The longest any group runs tomorrow will probably be around 6 miles. If you had planned on a long run for Sunday you could get some miles in the morning and the rest in the afternoon.

Unless you got your long run in some other daythis week.
